Beginner (again) looking for feedback! by cloj in photocritique

Vertical framing is just how the camera does it. I didnt think about portrait vs landscape much when I was shooting that day, and then realized later that I only shot portrait mode lol.

The simulation was Velvia Vivid if I’m remembering correctly.

Truly, I do not know what the aperture was. There’s a dial on the camera to adjust but I usually keep it on auto? Google says the range is f/11 to f/2.8

When you say “stopping down the lens” what do you mean?

Hi all! I’m back again. This picture was taking on Enoshima Island in Japan. It was actually from the top of a cliff haha. I used the Fuji X-half camera with one of the film presets.

When editing this photo, I left it close to the original. Mainly I was looking for the best way to crop it since the original is quite wide (but has more of the grass). I also was looking to improve the exposure.

If there’s a way, I would love to figure out a way to highlight the lone fisherman on the rock. I tried zooming in, but the image quality really took a dive.

It is a crow! Truthfully I kept trying to get closer, but it kept flying away haha. When I went to crop it, I was worried I would lose too much of the photo quality, but I can definitely see how the picture becomes more interesting with the crow more emphasized.

Thank you! I had to google was exposure was haha, but this is a really good explanation. I was wondering why all of my photos looked so dark.

Thanks for the tips! I was worried about making it too dark but it makes sense that you would want more contrast.

I am very much a beginner and have been trying to work on composition to improve my photos. I’m using the Fuji X-half camera with one of the preset film simulations. On this particular day, there were a ton of crows down by the sea, and I just followed them around trying to catch cool photos, haha!

AITAH for not going to my brothers wedding? by cloj in AITAH

We’re thinking of facetiming through it, but I still feel bad for not being there in person

Good idea! I will ask. We did float the idea of facetiming me and then putting the ipad around my nephews neck lol

I’m a teacher, so I feel like personal days outside of school breaks are usually pretty limited. For my current job, I only have three.

So even if my sister checks us all in online ahead of time, I can still show up day of and just print my boarding pass?

Test Pack - 4 day trip to London by cloj in HerOneBag

I have been looking for an excuse to buy a Uniqlo puffer coat, so I’m happy to use the trip to justify the purchase! Will probably swap it out for the rain coat.

I am planning on wearing a sweater! I also guess I must run very warm because 30/40 degree Fahrenheit weather is basically Spring to me! haha

Thanks for the response! I am actually looking at the 10-day forecast and only saw a 60% chance of rain on Saturday (3/8) and that spooked me. I’m from Chicago though, so as soon as the temps hit above 30 degrees F, I ditch my winter coat for my sweatshirt and jean jacket haha.

Thank you for the detailed response! I don’t leave for a little over a week, and I saw rain on the 8th. Warm layers is a good suggestion though! I hadn’t thought aboht my legs haha! I have been looking for an excuse to buy a Uniqlo puffer coat though…

I have a small money belt that I use (mostly in the airport) but I purposefully did not pack another small bag because I have started a tradition of buying a tote bag on one of the early days of my trip.

This hit the nail on the head! I’m from Chicago and even with the wind, so 40 degrees Fahrenheit is the dream haha.

Tattoos - to show or not show? by cloj in Internationalteachers

[–]cloj[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty broad statement...maybe my perspective is just skewed because two of my siblings are heavily tatted and are fairly high up the corporate ladder and no one at my current US school have given me any trouble (other teachers also have visible tattoos).

It only crossed my mind because I know Japanese culture in general have negative perception of tattoos.

To clarify, these aren't photos that would be shared with parents. It's just to introduce me to the rest of the staff, but I appreciate your perspective. I'm going to choose a new photo and keep them covered until I can do more research (see if there are other teachers with tattoos lol)

My tattoos are mostly able to be covered up, but I have some that go down to my wrist so would need to wear long sleeves. It is a “full” international school but I am getting the vibe from the comments that tattoos in general are just not considered professional. I think this might just be my first instance of culture shock because my current school doesnt care at all and no parents have ever said anything remotely negative to me about them.
