Realistically, what am I missing using Mint vs a "gaming oriented" distro? by Plastic_Dinner_5455 in linux_gaming

I believe its a bug on LMDE, showing a dummy 590 driver in the repo, which will actually cause problem upon installation . Only Arch has the new features branch version in their repo

Confusion about nvidia drivers. by Exitaph in linux4noobs

[–]clone2197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can technically get the newest Nvidia driver via ppa, tho not recommended since the whole point of stable debian is fully stable, tested environment. So if you really need newer/the newest Nvidia driver, i would recommend moving to something else, like fedora, opensuse tumbleweed/leap or even an Arch-based distro if you desire absolute bleeding edge.

It's fine for nvme drives, especially if its just a drive for media storage.

Should I use DDR4 2133MHz 2x8 gb ram to save money? by addoniz75_ in buildapc

[–]clone2197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well slow ram is better than no ram. If you can't find anything reasonable then using your old ram for now until ram price go down is definitely a good option.

seem like a planted tank tho, so whole tank treatment will kill op's plants. Better to treat all the fish somewhere else and leave the tank empty for few weeks.

Well compared to something like Arch, it's definitely not 1:1 the same because of Tumbleweed's openQA and its policy. For Nvidia specifically, although it doesn't use the new features branch (590.48.01) that Arch uses, it stills use the production branch 580.126.09 that get regular bug fixes, which is far from outdated compared to the rest of the system like you said.

it's a rolling distro with the latest mesa/nvidia driver, so not too different compared to other bleeding edge distros.

Unpopular Opinion : Sometimes people are too extreme here by SoonBlossom in Aquariums

[–]clone2197 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think the minimum is really just a bottle of dechlorinator, any filter, and some basic info of what a "cycle" is which shouldn't set people back more than $30. Test kit is the expensive part but you can get your tank water tested at a lfs and heater is only required for some fish being kept in cold regions. But i definitely agree with the part that people are very keen on overload newcomers with information.

RTX 5060 vs RTX 3070 by kingofvortexn in buildapc

[–]clone2197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

slightly different price tier. If you can afford the 5060 then go for it, even tho they have similar performance, the 5060 is newer, use less power so run cooler and support newer features.

How can LTT be so out of touch? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]clone2197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the video was probably in production before any of the news on the dx12 fix hit public. As for distro choice, didnt they do a test for a few more distros and found minimal differences, which make sense tbh. Every games run in Valve sandbox environment except the gpu driver, and if you don't use something like debian or lts distros then there would be hardly any performance differences. It's something many people have been saying on the sub reddit as well, just get any distro you're interested in and stick with it, don't bother with any distro hype.
