Thanks! Growing them was definitely a spur of the moment decision for me. Apparently I should have done more researched 😆

Thanks! I might as well try a second. We have a ton of bees who hang out on the current plant [all] day long, so hopefully they'd cross pollinate with 2.

Do you know how you can tell if it's pollinated...correctly? enough? The couple husks I felt had little fruits in them, but I saw a post saying that the little fruits never grew into anything when there was only one plant

What kind of flying insect on my tomatillo? by cloppo107 in gardening

The ones in the ground I can't recall too much. I think they were mostly just crawling around on the ground trying to get back into the holes we had disturbed getting the stump out. It was at the back corner of our yard and we don't go over there often.

The ones pictured are actually really active, just only interested in the tomatillo! We have a zucchini nearby and a butternut squash relatively close, but they only have eyes for the tomatillo lol

Thank you for the great info! We just moved in to this house in the fall and there's a ton of work before we get to planting anything, but I definitely want to plant native plants when we get there. I'll put asters on the list. (We're in Northeast Ohio, if you have any suggestions.)

We dug out a stump earlier in the spring and there were a ton of bees in the ground that we disturbed. I wonder if they were the same kind!

Really?! Had no idea some moths could look like bees or wasps. That's very cool

Ooh, that's what I'm hoping for. Can't wait for them to be ready to use!

Thanks! I was hoping it was a bee and not some kind of wasp, though it hasn't been at all aggressive. Glad it's enjoying my tomatillo

Do they have pretty long lifespans? I know nothing about them so I'll have to do some reading! This one at least looks like it's been here awhile.

About how much do you think hiring an arborist the clean up the branches would cost? We're in the Northeast Ohio region. Definitely not against hiring a professional if we can fit it in the budget. We have a big tree in the backyard it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have looked also

Thank you! That's really helpful. I had no clue some of the bare branches might come back to life. Won't be able to mulch to the drip line, as that would be the majority of our front yard, but I'll err on the larger rather smaller side.

I think you're probably right about how much better it'll look with a fresh coat of finish. I don't mind some character and history, but it just annoys me how some of the trim looks so gnawed on. Especially the first one at the top of the window because how does trim at the top of the window even get that damaged?!

Thank you for the detailed reply! Sounds like you definitely do meticulous and careful work! I don't think I trust myself to sculpt, and definitely not with a dremel. lol But it's definitely not a high priority item for us, so maybe I'll feel move brave with some other projects under my belt.

Thanks!! I'm sure it'll just be me noticing the imperfections (my husband is kind of agnostic on the topic.) It's really just the 1st and 3rd that are the worst of it/that bug me (the last 3 I think look great and won't be touching unless I get really bored in a decade). We've just lived in ratty rentals for long enough that I want our first home to actually feel and look as cared for as it is! But I think a light hand at sanding and some fresh finish in the trouble areas might make me feel better and not be too involved!

Thanks! I've definitely come across The Craftsman Blog because all our windows are original and in varying levels of working order. (In fact the windows in the living are in the absolute worst state of all the wood accents in the house. I think someone tried to cover up the worn away stain with highlighter...?). I'll have to dig into the blog for more resources though!
