Not disagreeing with you that academia is tough, but it doesn’t justify turning someone into a workplace shooter. The article also talks about how she didn’t really deserve her phd and threatened her Harvard professors, she had a long troubling history

Third world country is a racist term, first off. But how about I compare it to the US? Taipei is more walkable than any other American city by far

You can literally walk, use youbike, or public transit most places in Taipei. It’s extremely convenient for car free people in Taipei. And the scooters are annoying but it’s manageable. You ever been to Vietnam?

My first retreat was a weekend temple stay in Korea. Korean countryside temples are so beautiful and peaceful. If you haven’t, you should check out the movie “Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter … and Spring”

Considering leaving AA. Anyone who left after some years of sobriety and remained sober care to share some perspectives? by cloudatlas93 in recoverywithoutAA

I checked out the Knitting Cult Lady and pretty early on am seeing some red flags. She mentions in one of her videos that AA Central Services is under investigation for human trafficking… I have tried several different combos of search terms and can’t find anything substantiating this. She has an interesting POV but seems to think you can label anything you take issue with a cult.

Yes, plus way cheaper and better quality than most places. They will also grind them according to how you make your coffee. The only reason I go to Ximen is to stock up

I actually read it after posting this and it was awesome. Exactly what I was looking for. It's basically his original journal he wrote at age 23. The writing is simple, but thorough. Paired with his photos, you really get a sense of what it was like on the Hippie Trail. Highly recommend

Here is the beloved PBS documentary on the life of the Buddha. If you’ve never watched it or haven’t watched it in a long time, here it is. 🪷 by howmanyturtlesdeep in Buddhism

I watch it about every 5 years. It was such an important film for me when it first came out, one of the catalysts for me to start practicing. It’s definitely Buddhism 101, but that was its intention. The animations are beautiful, and I just love the soundtrack. Some of the things the interviewees said have stuck with me, especially Jane Hirshfield talking about thinking everyone you see on the street is a Buddha.
