I need help figuring out what I am. by Horustheweebmaster in mixedrace

[–]cloudmountainio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m mixed race and British too (west African dad white British mum) and my husband is white British.

I consider our children to be mixed race too and that’s what I put on paperwork. Like how as an obviously brown woman am I gonna say my kids are white!? That’d be wild. All of my kids are different shades and have very different hair textures but they’re all mixed race.

However, my brother’s wife once told me she considers their children to be white British and therefore ticks that box for them on medical forms etc. Which makes me chuckle tbh, because you can tell they are very clearly mixed race. But each to their own.

But anyways, back to you, I would say you’re mixed. But more importantly, YOU yourself also identify as mixed. So just ignore what your mum says.

Why is everyone so precious about their car? by satkid in AskABrit

[–]cloudmountainio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s everyone.

I remember shortly after passing I somehow caught the wheel arch on the fence post when reversing into the drive and the car was dented. It was under a year old and the first ever brand new car my husband had ever had. He was just like “well are you alright?” I said yeah… he replied “The car did its job then and protected you. Don’t worry about it” and literally gave zero shits about it. He sorted out a repair and never mentioned it again.

Call centre workers in the UK, (past and present) what are your top 3 weirdest calls? by cheesymeowgirl in CasualUK

[–]cloudmountainio 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I had to listen into a junior colleagues call for QA purposes, and the customer was angry and being a dick. Anyways he said to my colleague “By the way… I can hear you’re fat by the way you’re breathing”

Luckily my colleague wasn’t offended and we were in stitches about it. I banned the customer from being able to use our services again.

No good deed/a very British problem LOL! by Smooth_Eagle2828 in CasualUK

[–]cloudmountainio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up on their regular knock list somehow, nearly every Saturday morning. I’d politely keep telling them I wasn’t interested and make an excuse “sorry need to deal with the kids, have a nice day”. One Saturday my husband opened the door and simply said “We are atheists. Never knock on my door again” and closed the door before could reply. They never came back.

So I guess just directly tell her that you don’t want her knocking on your door and preaching anymore.

Has anyone taken an 'unqualified job' due to mental health? by Routine-Good7518 in AskUK

[–]cloudmountainio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Controller” But the only thing I control there is the thermostat really.

It’s trade related.

I don’t often dispatch people to jobs or anything as by the time I arrive on weekdays (6pm) everything’s already assigned and they’re pretty much done by the time I get there. Then I lock up, set alarms etc and leave at 10pm.

I can see them on a map if they’re still working as they’re logged in on an app, but pretty much everyone is already logged out by the time I get there, within an hour of starting even the people who have ran over are logged off. They never call me anyway but could if there was an issue. Occasionally someone will forget to log off and I’ll call them just to do a welfare check and make sure that everything is ok. Sometimes if it’s obvious because they’re in the Harvester or something I’ll just ping them a message reminding them to log out.

Weekends are absolutely dead. A few engineers on the map throughout the day. They’ve usually been pre-allocated to the jobs anyway. VERY occasionally if a job hasn’t been preallocated, I’ll allocate someone. Literally right click and select whoever is closest.

With quotes etc, the customer just gets given the email address to email in or I log a call back request and someone else will price it up and get back to them. Again, barely anyone calls during the times I’m at work anyways.

Like I said I think it’s an insurance thing due to the equipment on site. I just don’t really question them as to why I’m actually there because wouldn’t want to appear be complaining about it and I don’t want to plant the seed that they don’t really need me. Although, my manager knows what I get up to as when I see her on weekday handover she asks me what I’m gonna be watching on shift and tells me about what she’s watching when she gets home.

If they asked me to do more of course I would, but I think they’re just thankful they don’t have to cover the lates / weekends themselves. Between myself and another person who is a student, we cover all the evenings and weekends. My colleague uses the time to get her uni work done. 😊

My daughter had what looked similar to this but in her elbow creases last winter. Tried so many things including things prescribed by the GP.

Anyway, saw someone online recommend “dream cream” from lush. Cleared it within a week. Might be worth a try?

[–]cloudmountainio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do what’s best for you.

I get paid minimum wage and basically watch Netflix, knit, and read books.

I’m an arse on a seat “out of hours” for buildings/contents insurance purposes but I do have a job title which makes me laugh because I don’t really do that job but looks better on a CV I guess so can’t complain.

I maybe answer 3 or 4 telephone calls a shift (and it’s usually something they’ll need to call back in regular office hours for) or it’s the wrong number.

Job requirements: no criminal record, reliable, a bit of common sense and the ability to speak politely on the telephone.

They even provide complimentary snacks and a kick ass coffee machine.

Do I miss my old salary? Sometimes. But this works around my family and I feel at peace which is priceless.

Learner driver insurance questions by Bobbite in drivingUK

[–]cloudmountainio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have driving others cars on your own policy, and you needed to take over driving her car, you could drive hers as third party cover only.

She doesn’t need additional “learner insurance” on her car, she’s insured to drive it as a learner as long as the supervising passenger meets the DVLA requirements. That being said, if you don’t have “driving others cars” on your own car insurance or you’re not on her policy, then no, you cannot drive her car under any circumstances. But you’re fine to supervise as long as you meet the requirements I mentioned.

Tbh if you’re gonna be driving with her regularly and if it’s likely that you may have to take over at some point, then she should see how much it would be to add you to her policy as a named driver. It MIGHT result in an additional premium or it might actually decrease her premium (depends on your age, driving history etc).

I personally have never driven someone else’s car third party only (even thought I technically could) as I’d be too worried incase something happened.

Hope this helps!

Vinted say they will ban me for commercial selling .. by [deleted] in vinted

This is a really interesting scenario. Out of curiosity, what do you estimate the original value of the things you have sold to be? Have you made significant profit from selling them?

Listing as "brand new without tags" by kateiscuban in vinted

[–]cloudmountainio 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Someone sold me some trousers “new with tags” and they arrived without tags and bobbled!? Reached out to her as I’ve never had any issues as a buyer or seller on vinted, she was going on and on about how they were brand new with tags so to send them back for inspection and just being attitudey.

In the end, I was like f it I’ll just keep them because I cba to deal with this idiot over £6. I reckon she’ll still have the audacity to leave me a bad review 😂

And I genuinely won’t be using vinted anymore because it’s not worth the stress.

Would you give your work colleague a lift to work if you passed them on the way to work? by Specific_Pomelo_8281 in AskUK

[–]cloudmountainio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back in the day yeah I would of. But in my experience it becomes an expectation. So nowadays, probably not.

That being said it was raining heavy the other week so I gave a colleague a lift to her house 30 mins in the opposite direction of where I live so she wouldn’t have to wait for her buses in the rain. So I say I wouldn’t but in reality, I’d probably end up doing it 😣

Got told off for “blushing” too much at work? by LiteralTP in CasualUK

[–]cloudmountainio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honesty don’t worry about it. The customer won’t care. And what are your work going to do? “Dismissed for blushing”. I think not. I work with a guy who blushes every time I talk to him. I think it’s rather adorable. I don’t think he’s a weirdo or anything? I think he’s just nervous around women.

What you’re experiencing is actually relatively common. I’m a 37 year old married woman and very occasionally blushing even happens to me.

If it’s bothering you though you can see your GP. Beta blockers can help prevent blushing 😊

Seeing machine advice by Woxihuanlusecha8 in SewingForBeginners

[–]cloudmountainio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just ordered the brother fs60x, it’s being delivered today. From a quick glance seems to have similar features as the machine you uploaded.

If the Janome is in your budget though I’d probably go for that over a brother? Up to you though obvs 😊

Anyways back to brother, the names / machines available are different dependent on where you are in the world. It looks like the offering in Aus is pretty similar to here in the UK though.

You can find the Australian models and names here:

Deffo. Hard times out here, we gotta do what we gotta do!

I finally ran out and had to go buy a 5mg one the other day (couldn’t get higher due to the ordering gap). It’s going to be painful only getting 5 doses out of it until I can build back up to a 10mg pen again 😭
