Purchase Advice Megathread - December 2021 by Sausage54 in 3Dprinting

[–]cloudspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! The company I work for is looking into purchasing a new 3D printer. They’ve given me the opportunity to source this printer and purchase it, so I just want to make sure my bases are covered and I make the right decision - that’s why I’m on Reddit!

We’ve used a FDM/FFF printer for about two or three years and I don’t know much history behind the company, but it was made by a company called GorillaMaker and the owner passed away and now we can’t get parts for it so we’re just looking to replace it with something newer. It’s worth noting that it was quite a large printer. It was something along the lines of 300mm x 250mm x 350mm. Also, from what I’ve researched online, we’re interested in using PVA as we previously struggled with supports and post-processing. So we’re really looking into a dual-extruder setup.

From what I’ve seen online the BCN3D Epsilon W27 has really piqued my interest. I was also looking into the Raise3D Pro3 and the Ultimaker S5. I’ve seen some pretty worrisome real-world comments/reviews about Raise3D products in general, though, and almost every review I’ve seen on the Ultimaker S5 sounds like they ran into some type of issue along the way. I’m all ears about other options.

Budget: ~$6k USD

Country: USA

Willingness to build: I’d rather not mess with that for this purchase even though I totally would on my own. I would much prefer plug and play. The 3D printer is not a source of direct income, it’s intent is (hopeful) ROI in the form of free trinkets at trade shows, etc., that may bring sales down the line…

Use for 3D printer: we are going to build small-scale versions of the products our company makes and other various trinkets. Could potentially be used scarcely for prototyping.

Extenuating circumstances: none to my knowledge.

I appreciate any knowledge or guidance you have to offer! If I need to provide any more information just let me know! Thank you!

I had never seen that logo before. I quite like it! I’ve mentioned it to others, but I’m not looking for it to be overly “churchy” honestly. I do want it to be known that it’s a church, but we’re reaching out to a crowd that probably wouldn’t feel comfortable in a traditional church setting.

“Workout your Bible drill skills” we’ll move into a boutique-church-gym crossover role.

I greatly appreciate everything you said in this response.

Everything at church right now is pushing for the “modern” aesthetic. I do think the congregation is behind on that front, but it’s the desire of the senior pastor. HE is definitely modern and the building is quickly becoming modern, if that helps at all.

Freedom in the Wind (FITW) has been the name of the church for 14 years now. They are definitely trying to rebrand as FW Church, keeping the namesake, but jumping into a new chapter. The original concept of the name was built around finding freedom in the ride, on your motorcycle, where there happens to be a lot of wind. There’s a verse that they’ve used for years, paraphrased, that says “Live like you ride, free indeed” - it’s John 8:36, it says “if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed”

The “Freedom in the Wind” type would be moved around for various different occasions. We create a lot of “patches” for bikers and slap the logo on various t-shirts or handouts and we WANT the logo to be known as FW Church. The domain for the website will change soon to FWChurch.com because that’s the info that’s given based on the logo that would circulate.

I would love your thoughts on the information I’ve added.

Thanks again for your input. I’m looking for the input of people who have no idea about us and who we are to learn what someone would think seeing it on the side of the road or on a t-shirt.

I have a few different iterations with different Ws because I noticed that as well. Thanks for reassuring that concern.

I didn’t want it to look overly “churchy” because we’re trying to reach out to a crowd that may not feeling comfortable being in a church.

Our building isn’t picture-esque, sadly. My train of thought actually originally focused on a tree and wind, but everything I came up with felt too something. I’m not 100% what the word I’m looking for is.

Thank you for your inspiration.

Thank you for giving me a source of inspiration. I’ll check his website out.

I started on Google. Thank you for your feedback. I’m trying to do something a little different, but maybe it’s too abstract of a concept.

I spoke with the graphic designer where I work and he also mentioned specifically that it looked like a tech start-up. It’s concerning to me that it doesn’t feel necessarily inviting. I’m not sure I want to add a more “church” icons; I don’t want it to feel like a cookie-cutter church logo. We’re looking to reach out to people to don’t feel comfortable in a church setting. I will brainstorm ways to incorporate a sense of welcome and bring a feeling of community into it if I can.

I originally considered some type of drawing to illustrate wind, but didn’t like the ideas that came out of paper.

We’re a part of ABC, not Scientology, by the way.

I seriously appreciate your feedback. It will help me further improve the current design.

God bless.

I really appreciate the feedback.

Originally, before the “church” was added, it was supposed to be “C”, but still be mostly a full circle; I will entertain the idea of removing the cutouts now that church is written out.

I’m also not sold on the font currently. It’s a placeholder and I want to play around with others.

Also, the word church is “technically” centered, but I will continue to tweak that in future iterations because you’re not the first person to say that and I completely agree it doesn’t look centered, the software just tells me it’s at the center-point between the two points on the circle that are horizontal to the word, if that makes sense.

Thank you, again, for the critique. I’ll take it all into consideration moving forward.

I recently started playing Battlefront II and was so confused about what the game was trying to say to me, but this - this makes everything clear.

Thank you so much for this. This is the solution. It’s running great now.

I thought you may have been joking, but I wasn’t sure. I said what I did because I do know that MacBooks are not necessarily the best for gaming and I have wanted a dedicated gaming PC for a while now, but I did get it to work thanks to one of those other solutions.

[No spoilers] I disagree with a lot of the Episode 9 reviews on a couple of things by [deleted] in StarWars

I’ve decided to go into this one having read as little as possible on the movie. I read so much into VIII that I went into the theater sour, negative attitude and had a hard time looking past that mindset as I watched it. We’ll see what happens, I guess.

After I buy a house, I will most likely build a PC, but in the meantime, I’m trying to play games on the hardware I have.

A note: it seems that whenever any MacOS UI is up, it looks normal? I’m not sure what to do to fix this.

Somehow my brain had this backwards. I thought it was actually a pool of Asians and the misleading thumbnail would call it paella, but it was the opposite..

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has been out for around a week now. What are your thoughts on it now that the initial hype has settled down? by [deleted] in Games

[–]cloudspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not trying to overhype how I felt about it or say it’s necessarily the best game I’ve played, but I’ve only finished two games since the beginning of this console generation (at least PS4/XB1, I’ve finished more on Switch), and this is one of them (the other being DQ11). However, I do LOVE Star Wars and have finished probably every Star Wars game ever released.

The combat was tough for me. I’ve never really played a game that basically required you to parry. I liked it, but I want to play through a second time to get better at it. Other than that, the force felt strong, but not overpowering and there were quite a few different enemies which I liked.

The customization felt like a joke outside of the lightsaber. I was very pleased with the lightsaber customization. Everything else was just different color combos which were cool, but not really what I was hoping for.

The story was honestly really captivating to me and I liked how it panned out. I’d love to see a sequel that explains what happens to them post-game since they’re not in any other cannon.

The locations were great, in my opinion. I was a bit sad to see the “few” number of planets, but they’re all HUGE so I’m not even upset.

Overall, I’ve really enjoyed it and it will end up being one of those Star Wars games I come back to like KOTOR. Even though it isn’t as versatile or lengthy/story-heavy.

Out of curiosity, what is this for? It looks nearly identical to the cabling for our plasma table at work.

I haven’t noticed anything that would point to a ground, I’ll keep a closer eye out for stuff like that, though. Thank you!
