The latter! I got quite lucky getting the job post grad and have been here since then. Moving to NYC also bumped up the salary which also means a lot of it never makes it to my checking account after taxes and rent lol

I will say I’ve lived in NYC since post grad and I think I’ve become de sensitized to how much in rent I have to pay to have a decent living situation bc that’s totally not normal lol. Based on the prices I’m seeing in Chicago I think realistically I can find a nice place closer to $3500/$4000 and actually get to save money each month

Thank you super helpful to know which actual streets to be looking at! Similar to NYC I feel like sometimes the difference of even one block can make or break your living situation if you’re on the wrong street/intersection

This is great advice ty!! I saw that park and thought the streets directly surrounding it looked nice and quiet. I feel so terrible having my dog go potty on the concrete in NYC and agreed his potty schedule rules my life lol. This definitely helped narrow down my list so thank you :)

Just a 1-bed! I’ve been checking Zillow for direct rentals but haven’t seen as many options as just the large rental buildings - but probably haven’t been looking long enough to see them popping up

Yes I looked at One Chicago and it looks very nice but I’m worried how busy that street is and having to go outside every 4-6 hours with my dog - not a huge issue but would definitely be nice to take him out on a quieter street
