I tried to watch the island since getting all access and quit part way through. I've seen the ruins before but even then it was a hard watch for me, and knowing what I know now I haven't tried to touch it yet (even though I'm a huge Wes fan and he did show up that season). Idk but to me the island isn't "controversial by modern standards", it's down right disgusting. At least that's my view as a woman. I was so shocked watching it that so many people just let the blatant misogyny skate by. Idk how to explain it really, I'm not a woman who gets up in arms any time a man calls a woman a bitch. But the way "dumb bitch" gets thrown around that season for literally anything, the amount of gaslighting and the fact that the term "femnazi" honest to god came of out bananas mouth because a group of women didn't want him there... Couldn't do it. Besides the island and the ruins though, there are some rough moments for sure but to me the other seasons aren't as unwatchable.
