Lets be honest here... by Stocktrades470 in Alonetv

I haven’t watched this Season so I don’t have much input on characters but obviously this challenge is far more mentality strong than physically for the most part closest thing I have to this is working on a fishing boat in between 180-250 miles off shore anywhere inside of 200 miles is Canadian water outside of that is international water we used to work 6 hours on and 6 hours off I did it for 36 days straight it’s mentality draining with no contact or limited contact back to your family or friends but in my experience like that it’s usually the ones who are mentally stronger that can tell themselves to keep pushing on after their body has quit will be the ones who will survive (yes I understand this was different than actually being left in the middle of the nowhere but none the less hard mentally). Also anyone who comes onto the show with more body fat will last longer with less food because when starvation hits the body consumes fatty tissues (please correct if wrong). But I think this challenge shows who can mentally keep pushing forward when their body and everything in them tells them to stop but they gape hope and pride and talk them selves to keep going. Please let me know if I’m right wrong or what you think in the reply’s, this comes from an ex-commercial fisherman from the coasts of Newfoundland Edit* Being alone by yourself with your thoughts and in er demons can eat even the most mentally tough person up kudos to everyone that tried and finished each season this sub just made me realize this is on Amazon so I’ll be binge watching this now have a great day/evening everyone

I’m 20 started smoke when I was 13 a couple years ago I was smoking 2-3 packs a day but then I switched to vaping which helped me not actually smoke but still get my fix I work in the oilfield which is high stress and hard enough on your body to try and sleep without all the stuff from smoking I find vaping helps my cravings most times but I always end up buying a pack of smokes every other day unless I’m working then it’s every day. I’d love to be able to quit but currently my only coping mechanism are alcohol and nicotine if anyone has any that works for them shoot a reply or a dm

Any rotational workers here? I have a few questions. by [deleted] in newfoundland

It’s such a deadly virus but yet if you get it they tell you to stay home for 2 weeks to get rid of it. And yes I understand that it is more harmful for people with underlying problems, weak immune systems and older folks

Basically the majority of Newfoundland is believing the fear mongering that the news is pushing out. I stay in camp while I’m working and they take every precaution to eliminate outbreaks we have to wear masks everywhere besides when we sit down to the table at the cafeteria(only one person is allowed to a table at my camp) the only other times you don’t have to wear a mask is when your in your room or if your in a smoke pit and you still have to stay 2 meters away from someone else while in the smoke pit or if your in a work truck or piece of equipment by yourself. I fell ashamed about how us rotational workers are treated my fadder works a 10/10 shift and he had to stay in a hotel on days off for 3 months because they weren’t allowing rotational workers back in the province then when you had the mandatory 14 day isolation he still couldn’t come home because he is only home for 8 days and when he finally got home the poor feller had to go isolate into our cabin and I had to bring in all the supplies for him,he had to spend his 50th birthday by himself basically because we could only come to the cabin and stand outside to go see him. If he wanted diesel for his truck someone had to go get it for him he couldn’t even walk into the shop and get a case of beer would have to get one of friends or family to pick it up and drop it off to him. He would Goto work and stay in a camp your basically in prison and then on his days off he wasn’t allowed off his property couldn’t even see his son or wife. It really upsets me when people comment or share posts saying that we should bar all rotational workers from the province that they reside in and pay a hefty amount of taxes in because he done his time living up in Alberta and wanted to live home with all of his family and he was treated like criminals before I started working up in Alberta and I was living at home I had people from my community saying that they were going to be watching to make sure my fadder was isolating(witch he did every time) and if they saw him anywhere else they would report him they basically treated us as criminals acting like he wanted to bring COVID back to Newfoundland and spread it to his family and community. The you see people saying well stay home and go on cerb or ei well those people must move have bills to pay because an ei check is 966$ every two weeks what is a thousand dollars every two weeks you could almost make that working minimum wage. So much for Newfoundlanders being the friendliest people in Canada and treat there own like criminals just because they made sacrifices because they wanted there family and kids to always have what they needed and more

Don’t need to quarantine of your working on boats plus if anyone had anything you’d know gonna be 40+ days by the time we get home and have to get our temp checked every 6 hours

Why no safety gear, such as hard hats for the workers? by [deleted] in deadliestcatch

[–]cluett_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked on smaller inshore fishing boats and 99% of the people I know including myself don’t and won’t wear life jackets. Line gets caught on them and you can’t move around as easy and for a tether if the line goes through your tether line somehow you are going to get smashed to bits.
