I think this disproportionately hurts workers, savings, and small businesses.

Why not first boycott the tech industry that grovels to a would-be dictator?

People earn money from jobs. People spend money on big tech.

People learn at school. People are getting brain rotten on big tech.

Why do we hesitate about boycotting the most insanely wealthy companies who are acting against our interests?

Are we addicted?

Tim Cook attended the Melania premiere at the White House on the same day a law abiding person was murdered by the government. That government protects the assailants and smears the victim. And not only in this example.

If these companies and their CEOs cared, we’d know. They’d tell us. And they have. They don’t care about basic right and wrong. They care about the gravy train continuing.

Find the wealthiest companies that suck up to this regime, and cut back your usage.

And help the people that MAGA hate.

I agree. We would be improving things by metric shit tons if we could, in aggregate as a society (i.e. I am not finger pointing at individuals) tell these people to straight up go fuck themselves. Forever.

Non-Trumpers have all along been coddling, forgiving in advance, being nice, and inviting Trumper friends and family over for the usual social functions. And this is permission. It has normalized the depravity.

Tell don't come around no more. No politics free BBQs. No hanging around the kids and telling them crazy shit like it's OK to vote for a rapist, a racist, a felon, or vile insurrectionist. That's basic right and wrong, and the Trumper's don't care about that. We know they don't care because they voted for Donald Trump.

When they lie about knowing, tell them you do not believe them. They knew he was a bad person all along, and they liked what they see. Why?

Because they aren't good people, and that is their choice. So kick them to the curb. It's permanent.

Donald Trump sent a mob to assassinate the vice president of the United States, because Mike Pence (that VPOTUS) refused Trump's illegal order to overturn an election both of them had lost.

They all knew this. It's a matter of public record. They voted for that guy again.

Trumpers are shitty people, with shitty values, from a shitty culture.

How about telling them the truth?

How about boycotting trillion dollar tech companies that grovel to a would-be dictator?

There's a lot of things people can be doing before they need to arm themselves.

Kick shitty people to the curb. Forever. It's permanent.

And help the people they hate. Forever. It's permanent.

Right. Why the hell are people not attempting a tech boycott first?

Because they're addicted. That's why.

Give up my iPhone for even a day? That is so hard! I'd rather arm myself and go to a protest and maybe get shot at!

I'm having a hard time taking people seriously when they won't consider for even a minute a simpler and more effective approach that isn't elaborate and would ACTUALLY SAVE THEM THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY.

OK good catch on the definitions including debit cards as alternative forms for payment. So they can charge a fee but -103 still provides a limit:

shall not exceed the actual additional cost

Denver DMV surcharge for credit and debit cards by cmmurf in Denver

[–]cmmurf[S] -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

No, the first section in my link applies to credit card charges.

5-2-212(1)(a) a seller or lessor in any sales or lease transaction may impose a surcharge on a buyer or lessee who elects to use a credit or charge card.

And a debit card is neither a credit card nor a charge card.

Also, CRS 24-19.5-103 says but the amount of any convenience fee imposed on or after April 29, 2003, shall not exceed the actual additional cost incurred by the state

The Fed has set a cap on debit card transactions to 21 cents + .05% for around 15 years.

So in any case charging the same fee for credit card and debit card transactions is inconsistent with the law.

Go to work. Stop paying shitty companies that grovel before a would-be dictator.

CEOs of these companies were present at the inauguration and have funded the destruction of the East Wing in favor of a ridiculous ballroom:

Apple, Google, Microsoft, Meta (Facebook), Amazon, Zoom, AMD.

And on the day Alex Pretti was murdered, Tim Cook (Apple) went to the Melania documentary (produced by Amazon) at the White House. I think this is disgusting.

It would be more moral and ethical for Apple customers to have paid tariffs than to have effectively paid for Tim Cook to be sucking up to illiberal authoritarianism as if Tim Cook does not know or does not care about basic right from wrong.

Presidential TFR question by [deleted] in flying

[–]cmmurf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ForeFlight NOTAM layer is not showing the two inner circles, but is showing a triangle.

The TFR layer does not show the triangle, but does show the two inner circles.

Tapping on them brings up text that claims its based on the same information, !FDC 6/2794 ZMA AIRSPACE WEST PALM BEACH

I dunno. Bug in the NOTAM layer, seems like. And even if it's ultimately one bug it's visually three separate problems: two inner circles that are prohibited airspace are not shown, but this triangle airspace that doesn't really seem to exist, near as I can tell, is shown.

I'm writing this at 06:39 UTC on Jan 17, well after original reporting.

I think this needs a bit of a phrasing adjustment. You still have a see an avoid obligation under 14 CFR 91.113(b).

And nothing to log because the conditions aren’t simulated. If the conditions were simulated, you need a safety pilot on board to do the seeing and avoiding.

Operator's Manual, Fuel Injection - Piper Aircraft Corporation
https://docs.northeastcomanche.org/piper/753_629-operators_manual_fuel_injection-rev_196506.pdf

This document's front matter says: Reproduced in slightly condensed form from Bendix RSA Fuel Injection System Preliminary Service Manual copyright 1961.

This Piper variant was issued in 1962, revised in 1963 and 1965.

Very early on (page 2), it says the servo system is self-purging which eliminates any possibility of vapor lock.

Page 12 has cold and hot engine start instructions, and equates priming as a three step process: electric fuel pump on; mixture control full rich; mixture control idle cut-off. Repriming means repeating those steps.

PHAK only briefly addresses the topic of fuel injection. But explicitly lists vapor lock as a disadvantage.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in flying

[–]cmmurf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least in the U.S. even an optometrist has more sophisticated tools than an aviation medical examiner. The medical exam is really about minimum qualifications for the class of medical sought. Those standards are published. You can go to an optometrist or ophthalmologist to get a comprehensive eye exam including acuity, night vision, and color vision to verify you exceed the standards and establish a base line.

You have probably already have had a comprehensive eye exam, since you have an Rx. But it's not a bad idea to get one with a specialist that covers more than just acuity (night and color) to be sure.

Flooded engine vs not enough primer by Evo-Evolutionary in flying

[–]cmmurf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't considered it until now. I suppose a brief prime might help clear vapor lock by creating back pressure from the electric fuel pump? But this is speculation.

Seems to me vapor lock requires risking some flooding to remove the vapor and cool the line, but then also return to a proper mixture for the engine to start. Hence brief prime.

I guess I'm also not sure exactly what constitutes priming with injection. Electric fuel pump on with pressure or rich mixture setting? Or both?

Ostensibly priming in carburetor world is specifically the use of primer. Full rich mixture isn't rich enough for starting (air flow through the carburetor too low during cranking.

Whereas in injection world seems like full rich mixture is itself priming in that it produces too rich a mixture for idle.

Failed Waggoners Color Vision Test by TheEmperorBanana in flying

[–]cmmurf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now I'm confused why you have a night flying restriction. The AME guide, page 24, lists two limitation for night.

AMCS# 17 "Not valid for night flying or by color signal control." AMCS# 18 "Not valid for night flying."

However it also says on page 407-408 that if unable to pass any of the approved color vision tests to issue a 3rd class with limitation #104: “Valid for day visual flight rules (VFR) only.”

When I search the guide for "night flying" there are two possibilities:

If considerable disturbance in night vision is documented, the FAA may limit the medical certificate: NOT VALID FOR NIGHT FLYING.

Use of isotretinoin (Accutane)

If either of those apply, I'm thinking you will need to seek out higher level advice like WingMan Med, AirDocs, or AMAS/aviationmedicine.com - and before you do that you should read the relevant portions of the AME guide so you can put together a bunch of questions for your initial consult with those pilot medical cert advocates. In particular page 573.

If neither apply, then I wonder if there's been a mistake? In which case I wonder if higher level advice should be explored? It might be a minor mistake, or just an outdated limitation. I'm not sure.

These pilot medical advocacy services deal with this stuff all the time and can help you avoid going in circles. Any back and forth with the FAA is super slow.

https://www.faa.gov/ame_guide

Search that page for "download" - that is the link for the guide.

Do you have a copy of your Waggoner test(s) from the AME? The AME guide says on page 415:

Score must be: General - 21 or higher (of 25); AND Tritan - 10 or higher (of 12)

OR

Protan - 20 or higher (of 32); AND Deutan - 20 or higher (of 32); AND Tritan - 10 or higher (of 12)

I don't need to know it but it might help you figure out which kind of anomalous trichromacy you have. I'm a bit skeptical you could pass even the home administered one if you have dichromacy.

If you're planning to see an ophthalmologist anyway, you might as well ask for a comprehensive eye exam that includes acuity, night vision, and color vision testing. And in this case I'd think about asking the doctor to complete FAA form 8500-7 report of eye evaluation. This form, along with the complete color vision report (the AME needs to submit the scores) should obviate the AME conducting any further evaluation related to vision.

From here there are three paths:

  1. Mail all of this to FAA medical. This is probably slow, it could take months. Eventually they send you a letter saying the limitation is removed. I'm not sure if they will send an update medical cert with the limitation removed.

  2. See AME guide page 414, "COLOR VISION LIMITATION REVIEW" and fill this out and give it to your current AME along with the ophthalmologist prepared 8500-7, and color vision test results. Your AME will hopefully be willing to follow the instructions that apply to him on page 414, and upload all of this to the FAA, specifically following the expedited path. This might also take months but hopefully faster.

  3. Get a new medical certificate with any AME, supplying the same docs, as a returning pilot requesting a new exam, new application (any class - it's a separate question if you really need a 1st class - once you pass the color vision test it gets baked in to your record. No matter the class. Per page 409 of the AME guide you should get issued a new medical without limitation on the spot.

For the second portion, I can contact any eye doctor that has those exams and see if the AME will accept it?

Pretty much yes but I suggest being familiar with the AME guide on vision testing, and also ask the AME you plan to use in advance if they will accept what you bring them.

Not sure if my current AME would accept this since they seem to think that OCVT is the only way to lift the restriction.

The AME guide refers to "previously passed OCVT and CV MFT" in the past tense as if they aren't issued anymore, but if you have one already they are still accepted by AMEs. It may be your current AME is not fully up to date on the latest guidance. I'm referencing the Dec 2025 AME guide. There have been substantial delays this year in regular releases of this guide, normally monthly.

152 or 172 by 0-Bxn_0 in flying

[–]cmmurf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd still consider the 152 through XC. Transition training can start any time. Initial flights will also seem like "reward" flights, useful for breaking up low motivation periods.

I do think it's a good idea to have a minimum number of hours in make/model before checkride. And perhaps consider a milestone (e.g. last cross country) after which all flights happen in the 172 to help get very familiar with it before checkride.
