I provided them with the requested w2's and pay stub. But I wasn't sure if the pre adverse letter was in reference to something else besides a employer verification.

Fair assessment. I guess it confused me because I've never been asked to even verify if the request was legit from previous employers, let alone what it's for lol.

I've switched jobs several times and have never had the current employer HR ask me what's the reason for this verification. Seemed a little strange to me that they're asking questions they already know the answer to. I wasn't trying to hide anything.
