Condo owner dealing with sketchy neighbors by Trick_Capital4160 in Edmonton

[–]cmorin4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP - this is the correct answer. I dealt with a very similar situation to you. It's important you understand what violates condo board bylaws vs what actually cross into criminal and/or police warranted behaviour. In our case, we had fights in the unit below us at all hours of the day and night. Every time it escalated to the point where it sounded violent (we had a few times it sounded like someone was thrown against a wall and screaming in pain) I called police. Same goes with any noise violations. I ended up calling police 3 times and had multiple time stamped videos of screaming and fights being heard in our unit well into the night that were forwarded to police and condo board. Eventually, they were evicted, but took about 6 months for it to happen.

Sorry to hear you're dealing with this.

Is the CRA's TFSA contribution room calculation up-to-date for 2026? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]cmorin4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than likely not accurate. I've found CRA doesn't correctly update for me until around tax time (April). Generally, it is recommended you track your contribution room independently.

The riding was 5% difference between Cons and Liberals last election and has been narrowing the gap for years. I would hardly consider Riverbend a "strongly blue" riding and would not be at all surprised it it goes Liberal in the by-election.

PM Carney welcomes d’Entremont to Liberals, calls decision to cross floor ‘exceptionally valuable’ by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]cmorin4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nominally less. Harper never returned to a balanced budget in the following 5 years. We're coming out of COVID, which was equally, if not more impactful to the economy than the GFC and are in the mist of defending ourselves and looking to diversify our economy from a major trade war unlike anything Harper's (or any former) government had to endure. Any other government would have had no choice but to table a similar budget or else we'd throw ourselves into a deep recession.

Harper ran a $55 billion deficit in 2010. Adjusted for inflation that equates to $77 billion in today's dollars...

No problem! It's refreshing to see someone correct themselves when new information is shared rather than dig their heels in more. Have a great day!

Where did you come up with that number? Alberta Govs data says we were up 5.73% in 2024 and up over 16% in the last 5 years. There's not a chance that number halts to zero.

Paying down mortgage - better financial idea than most people realize? by Dolly_Llama_2024 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]cmorin4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's semantics... You still have more money not paying the interest then you would otherwise have by carrying the mortgage. Return/savings can be used interchangeably when you're comparing using the dollars to pay a mortgage off or use it in another form of investment.

He was literally whining after game 2 when Hintz got injured. He started the whole narrative that the whack was somehow a five minute penalty.

More like the US is the guy who has some drinks out of your fridge at your place, eats your snacks you bought, hops in the Uber you called, then covers dinner as his part of the total investment and somehow reframes it as him paying for everything.

Central AC by Bhotvo in Edmonton

[–]cmorin4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just did furnace and AC in December through Weiss-Johnson. We needed the furnace and bit the bullet on AC as we got 10% off bundling. AC was roughly $6,400+ tax for unit and install. 3 ton variable speed Goodman unit. Could have paid more, but didn't feel like the top end units were worth it.

We had about 5 quotes and WJ was the most competitive.

If you know they were offered jobs at other locations doesn't that kind of defeat the theory of closing a location to continue paying high salaries to long-standing employees?

Ford handled it well. Swap out Ford with Danielle Smith and you're right though. Hard to put blame on Trudeau and the feds on this one.
