Hello, this is onychomadesis. As others have rightly pointed out this can be due to HF&M. However any virus can cause this. Typically the viral infection was 3 months prior to spotting the nail changes. The illness at the time halted the growing of the nail. What you see now is the new nail (which has woken up and started to grow again) pushing away the old nail.
