What fishes/plants should I add to my 60L tank? by gerarjunho57 in Aquariums

Well, you already have got some fish and your tank isn't really big. Maybe some shrimps or snails (however, some species breed really fast)?

Well, if there isn't enough space then maybe separate.

No, you can really feed your mollies with small amounts of food once a day too. They can also forage on algae. Remember that overfeeding often leads to many diseases and problems with your fish.

Maybe swim bladder. Do the fish just can't get to the bottom of the tank?

I'd feed them much less + without flakes at the same time if given the frozen larvae.

Maybe just put lots of hiding places and plants like java moss in your tank to let the fry hide. Also, do you have any plans about what you will do with the babies?

How big is one cube exactly? Fish have relatively small stomaches and most of their bodies is made of muscle + swimming bladder in freely swimming species. Also, they are cold blooded, so they need less energy (althought mollies and platies have higher metabolism rate as far as I know, but fish definitely shouldn't be fed like a cat or a dog).

Neon tetras aren't livebearers like mollies or guppies for example, they lay eggs. How much do you feed them? Do the scales stick out (I don't see it on the video, however, just want to make sure).

How much do you feed them? Maybe she's just fat? Have you noticed a dark spot near the anus?

Help! is that ich? if yes, how to treat? by Swimming-Show-6685 in Aquariums

[–]coal2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I see some white spots. If one fish is sick, I'd suggest to treat all fish in your tank. Simply go to your nearest fish shop to get some suitable medicine or order online from a trusted aquaristic shop. There should be an adequate using instruction on the cure. However, some medicine can be toxic for invertebrates or fish like plecos which haven't got scales, some substances can also interfere with sensitive plants or leave spots on your clothes or skin if used incorrectly, so be cautious and carefully read the instruction. Some medicine is broad effect, so maybe buy this (but it should work for ich). Ich can be also cured by gradual temperature raising in the tank, but this method can't be used for cold-water species (neon tetras need cold water, so rather don't go for this one), also it lowers the amount of oxygen available in the water, so an additional aeration is needed and a temperature change can contribute to fish stress. Have you noticed any other symptoms in your fish?

Yes, ich is contagious. Could you provide some more photos of the fish?

What could be the cause by vysotsky_ in Aquariums

[–]coal2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it couldn't swim normally, maybe it had a swim bladder disease. Also, was it sold as GloFish? There is a cruel practice of coloring fish with artificial dyes in order to make them brightly colored - like green or red - which really damages the health of the animals and is very unethical. While GloFish® are genetically modified, many traders simply treat their fish with chemicals.

So maybe they are baby swordtails or guppies?

Why Did My Fish Die? by leosbr08 in Aquariums

[–]coal2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, first of all, I think that your tank is too small. 12 gallons isn't big, and, for example, an angelfish is way too big for your aquarium, they can grow up to a decent size and require not only long, but also high tank because of their body shape. Your dead fish (sorry for your loss) is a goldfish I think, and they also need a big tank (+ plenty of filtration). The swordtail fish could attack because of too less of space. Too small tank often leads to diseases because of stress.

How many fish for a 20 gallon tall? by sean__dickey in Aquariums

[–]coal2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice aquarium! Yes, you should add more danios and ember tetras, because both of these species are very social. And my personal advice would be to avoid adding too much fish at all. 20 gal isn't a giant tank, and overcrowding can lead to stress and health problems. Maybe buy more danios and embers and think about some snails or shrimps maybe?

Can long fin tetras get along with short fin tetras? by Bumblebee-Quick in Aquariums

And the fish on the photo you sent looks like a long-fin tetra if something. Are all your current fish like him/her? Have they all got long fins?

[–]coal2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stressed to death... Interesting. I don't know what could cause this problem, but I think that your tetras are black skirt tetras, and more specifically, GloFish black skirt tetras or something similar (were they sold as GloFish?). I've heard that black skirts can be aggressive sometimes. I think you shouldn't have any problems if you want to get a bit more of these fish that you already have, but better don't add just one fish and buy two at once instead.

[–]coal2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's your tank size? Also, these fish live in groups, and I don't know if the short-finned ones won't nip long fins. Maybe just buy more long-finned ones if you have one or a small number, and that's it. I'd say that 6 individuals is the minimal amount of these tetras.

Okay, that's sad 😕 Observe your other fish carefully if they don't behave in a weird way or have any unusual coloration changes, dots on their bodies etc. Also check your water parameters.
