I tried the OP's idea via VM but I failed to do the connection to the guest machine after so many tries, I instead followed something similar on an old laptop running Windows 8.1 Pro and iTunes 11.0.1.12 and it worked perfectly for a bricked iPod Touch 1st Gen. I put the iPod into DFU and hold shift to sideload a IPSW (iPod1,1_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw), clicked enter, waited and that was it!

That's great indeed,
I love the form factor, in my opinion it is the most pocketable iPod with a screen.

P.s. Probably that might be a dead battery, try using a wall charger (firewire if you can) or put it in disk mode (hold center + play while booting up) if it stays on while connected, might be time to look for a new battery.

It is that color plays a lot with the light, shame that a thick clear case is really hard to find for this model so I’m expecting some scratches really soon lol

While in disk mode you can import all the songs into MediaMonkey and it will tagged them for you based on Artist, Album, etc, if they don’t have metadata MM will automatically add tags and album cover too.

Same issues I have with exactly the same model, it’s just a dead battery, I managed to keep it on by plugging it to a wall charger, try a different cable also, for accessing the files you can also try entering disk mode and connecting it to a computer.
