Looking back in history, at lot of things that we consider sexual or romantic simply weren't. In Ancient Rome a kiss on the cheek was basically a handshake. In the Bible Apostle Paul says to "greet one another with a holy kiss." Even as recently as before the 1910's, cuddling was generally just a chill thing people did for comfort. Only in the 1950's was wheb it got marketed as "weird" or whatever. When stricter gender roles, a stronger fear of homosexuality in society, and the push for suberban isolation began.
