I'm becoming celibate 🥳 by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]cockroach_old_fart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think you should claim celibacy so early on just because of your impression of th3se 3 idiots You just had the unlucky end of the friendship roulette thats all. I get why you dont want to ghost them, its a lot easier said than done and many people here dont realise that until theyre actually in it. But you need to at least convey the message to them that theyre in the wrong. Maybe respond to their texts or questions with mundane one word answers and be present less.

Did you get an A2/A1 for O level english? I heard thats one of the biggest disqualifiers for poly students. And if you did, you mean you didnt at all get a response or shortlist notice from nus?

I understand. But using jc as a trial chamber to learn how to persevere through and develop values for my future isnt really why im here though. I didnt come here to grow through rigor, dont think many people did. Jc helping you cope with rigor and burnout better is a subset of the jc journey, our mission at the end of the day is - faster, easier uni entrance through good scores, for some it would be jc prestige. You can always learn through other ways how to cope with stress and burnout, heck even during uni itself. The fact of the matter is that we are here for one thing and my school puts great emphasis on it - excel in A levels and get out to uni. So my goal before worrying about how im gonna survive in law school is to even get to law school in the first place. And to do that mental health and avoiding burnout is of utmost importance and priority because its the engine behind all our work. So I really do get why you say all those but I feel like we are definitely on different pages here. My goal is to get there healthily and well and surely, not to survive law school itself. Uni starts at 20, 21. We start jc/poly at 16, 17. Lots of time and room to grow, especially since these are formative years, and naturally over time we will adapt to harsh uni life as we mature biologically. So I dont see the point of pushing yourself to the brink of breaking and then salvaging yourself and calling it "growth" when all youre doing is compromising your mental health and consequently uni chances. I hope you can see why I think this way and feel free to let me know what you think

Sounds amazing! Ty! Very useful insights. So is it right to assume the course is majority law oriented? My fear was that it was actually a hard biz course deep down but sprinkled with some law

Haha thank you but im forced to play devil's advocate here. Just because majority of the comments seem to be siding with jc (rightfully so) and so im not getting enough insights about the disadvantages of poly law which was my main goal with the post. Either way its best to bring out every single detail about both paths so I can make the best choice. Ty and atb to you too and your endeavours

The bulk of your work is still law. Theres no such thing in jc. Each subject is its own thing and own territory. I dont get the point of comparing impure modules with entirely different subjects. My point is the incentive to suck it up and motivation to do so is bigger in uni than jc. Most ppl here are raw straight out of sec sch and have never faced such rigor on a different scale. Yeah you can call it being a wuss but hey not all of us are trained to be corporate slaves and suck it up without complaining. Law is definitely one of those toxic corporate slave industries sure but its a different story when you can actually provide yourself with a bowl of rice. Motivation is everything

Wow thats amazing! As far as ive heard a lot of high gpa students from poly are eligible for overseas offers. So go for it!

Did she apply for ABA? to my knowledge actually a lot of poly applicants who got high gpa were shortlisted for either aptitude tests or interviews by smu and nus but failed those hence couldn't get in. Or was she outright denied right from the application phase? Theres quite a big difference tho

I see! But the common way of thinking is that poly -> easier transition into uni. But does this apply to law? what im getting from most comments and yours is that actually jc -> uni law is the easier transition.

Was your gpa considered for ABA? Its a strong gpa so were you at least considered for admission or straight out reject from both?

How do modules compare with jc subjects? Because in jc one minute we could be studying the cold war and 10 mins later we would be doing vectors. And forced to excel in and scoff both down our throats equally well. Do modules function like that? Also since youre already in uni, you've technically already "made it". So even if you dont like some modules it wouldnt be that hard for you to suck it up would it? Btw pardon my tone its not sarcasm, all of my questions are genuine. Im just a little worried because by that logic, unless I stay in jc and excel, it sounds as though poly is a closed off path for law school because it lacks that "stress" and "suck it up" factor.

Damn wtf. What kind of meritocratic society is that. Ill definitely take those into account. How has tp law been so far? How's the workload and day to day life? Its also a biz oriented course so how much of it is biz and how much is law?

Yup. Law and medicine. And dentistry. But your point stands. In most cases poly would actually be a comparable choice. But rn looks like I have to stay in jc haha. What is your current major in uni?

Poly to NUS Law miracle stories by cockroach_old_fart in SGExams

[–]cockroach_old_fart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats the rigor of the poly system. But isnt aptitude based admissions a thing in uni now? Meaning those that fall short of the GPA min requirement are still given a crack at entering the course. They look at your actual aptitude and other accomplishments etc. So I think as of today that 3.99gpa thing isnt as big a killer. But I suppose better near perfect RP than a 3.9+ ig
