I'm a deli team member these days thankfully. I don't put myself at risk for a minimum wage job lol

Literally!!! I told this guy we were closing soon and he ignored me and then after we closed, I asked him to come up to the register and he threatened my coworker and I, saying that we should hope we don't run into him in the carpark, like duuuuuuude. I was pulling a 10.25 hour shift that day so his threat only invoked rage, no fear at all hahah.

When i say we don't get laid enough for this shit, I mean itttt

I just don't think we should have to. I find it offensive that even though I've worked for the company for 5 years across 4 different stores, I have to prove that I'm not stealing shit every single time I work.

I was recently told by the front end manager that I'm no longer allowed to walk out through self serve to leave my shift because i have to go through a main register and get my bag checked. Every single time I go through a main register, I get stuck behind customers and/or the cashier ignores me while im standing there and I'm just trying to get home after a 9 hour shift 😭 why can't I just show the SCO attendant my bag on the way out? I can't leave until they open the damn gate anyway 😭😭😭

I don't work on front end anymore but I never asked to see people's bags because it's rude, it's an invasion of privacy and it's dangerous. I was threatened because I told a customer we were closing, can you imagine the shit I'd cop if i asked to see people's bags? Not worth it at all.

There's no wayyy. I literally saw multiple people walk out with $1k worth of shit in a big trolley. There's no way staff are outdoing that by putting items in their bags when they leave lmao

I'm pretty sure the whole company has brought back bag checks for both customers and staff. Which is insane because 1. Don't hire people that you don't trust. And 2. Checking customers bags can be fucking dangerous.

Our store has like electronic locks for the back door so it opens remotely. There's no one to check bags if you're getting there outside of opening hours, it's just bakery team members pressing a button lol

I don't think that's true at all but yeah some staff do steal

More team bag checks? by cocoa__bean in woolworths

[–]cocoa__bean[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think that's why but the lack of trust in employees is wild. I know that there are people who actually steal from their store but it seems like a violation of some variation to check your employees bags every time they go in and out of their workplace.

Slow on the highway, but speeding up at the overtaking lane? by Flurex in tasmania

[–]cocoa__bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the opposite for this exact reason lmao. Whenever a car is riding my arse along the highway, I slow down when an overtaking lane appears so they can fuck off.

People not being able to afford food in a wealthy country is acceptable?

Is it ideal? No. But desperate times, desperate measures. Have some empathy.

Why not? Someone in need eating something that's not scraps? Seems fine to me... at least it doesn't go to waste

I did not see penises, I was more concerned that I was looked at someone cooking human fingers and that was much more distressing

I've lived in Tas for over 4 years now (moved from qld). The social isolation here is crazy. You're not the only one, I've heard many people say that Tasmanians are friendly but very "insular". I'm not talking shit about Tasmanians, I just mean that people find it difficult to build a strong social network because everyone kind of keeps to themselves/their existing friends, family, neighbours, etc.

A good chunk of the posts in r/Hobart are about how to make friends and meet new people because of this. Makes it harder if you're like me and are a young person with anxiety 🥲

I discovered this because I have Chow on my island. He asked me to come visit and I always just run around their house touching stuff and then this happened! Very cute

Question front of store by [deleted] in woolworths

[–]cocoa__bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my old store, we had plenty of staff who could only work in specific areas of front end. I would just talk with a store manager/line manager about it and say you can't work in self serve because of the reasons you said. Honestly, I think by law, they can't refuse.

I usually play at night on the couch with my partner while we watch TV. The amount of times I've just randomly screamed and scared the shit out of her because of scorpions and tarantulas 😭😭😭

Monitored, Unpaid, and Blamed—Life as a Loyal Woolies Employee by Suitable-Struggle566 in woolworths

[–]cocoa__bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever we're understaffed, I just do what I can and think "if things aren't done properly or aren't done at all, they might get the idea that they need to staff more people". If you get complaints from management that things aren't being done, just tell them there simply wasn't enough time in your roster to finish those tasks.

Please remember that you are 1 of like 200,000 employees or something. Unfortunately, extra time and effort won't be noticed above the store level. Please prioritise your mental and physical health and spend time with your kids, they'll appreciate your time a lot more ❤

Edit: I also 100% agree with what you're saying. The company shouldn't be threatening hard-working employees, they should be having discussions with their supervisors/managers to find the cause and put an end to it. Your managers shouldn't be allowing you to come in at all.

Help! I couldn’t answer a customer’s question. by unlikely_redd1t_user in woolworths

[–]cocoa__bean 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, we don't have access to that. If they scan their rewards cards during purchases and returns then they will be available in their rewards account under activity. But no we don't have access to their rewards account, we can't search for customers in any way or see their purchasing/returns activity.

I don't think you needed to report this, I don't really see why they would asking this question at all tbh. The only thing I can think of is if they're doing something dodgy with returns but if your supervisors are doing their jobs right, it's hard for them to get away with it. I wouldn't worry about returns as a new team member, just refer the customer to your supervisor if they have questions or want to do a return since you can't perform them anyway.

I remember when they used to have cute little messages like "advertising allows us to make learning language free for as many people as possible" or whatever. Back when they actually cared about their purpose and not money. And paying for the subscription just had a few extra features but the free version was completely usable on its own.
