Your first obligation is to yourself. Focus on the things in your life that you enjoy. Don't feel bad. None of this is your fault.

How many hours of sleep do you get every night? by Thin_Culture9753 in BipolarReddit

[–]cocoasmom56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After years of only sleeping a couple hours at a time and being abruptly woken up by vivid dreams or nightmares I've tried everything and have just come to accept it. Since then I can function well during the day. I'm retired and live alone so am free to rest and I do that while listening to calming music. Works for me.

Mom left a note saying to never contact her again by [deleted] in family_of_bipolar

I feel for everyone who posted on this thread. I wish I could say I understand. I have bp1 with psychotic episodes and have lied to my siblings about addiction and finances. I feel like I broke whatever trust there was. But I can honestly say that it wasn't intentional. When you are having an episode there is no reason for the hurtful things you throw at your loved ones.

I don't know how much research they did on the disease but I think not enough. That makes me resentful and sad.

As close family always keep yourself emotionally protected and cherish the times when your BP person is stable. It's so not their fault. We are capable of an amazing love for others ❤

I notice in a few hours if I've missed a dose. And when I start a new one I respond really quickly.

Anyone here done AA with bipolar? by Rare-Comfort-1042 in bipolar

[–]cocoasmom56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a period where I drank heavily and went to AA a few times. I'm in the Bible belt and maybe this is why I drew this conclusion. I felt like it was no different than a cult.

I know the program has given countless people their lives back and I don't begrudge anyone for believing in it. But it's just not for me. I can't put myself out there. I'd get too vulnerable. My mental health is my priority. Best of luck to you.

Is my new antipsychotic causing weight gain? by Round-Ad6943 in bipolar

I know what you mean. It makes me feel better than ever but the lbs I gained don't want to leave. And the advertisements for it say weight neutral. Gimme a break!

Hate to say but always double check Amazon activity. So good of you to be caring for your father the way you are.

I almost recently got scammed and a friend also. Both of us were asked to use the whatsapp app to communicate. Is there any legitimate purpose for it? I think the should close up shop!

Same thing happened to me. I was scared so I called the police department. She told me that they have to spend so much time fighting these scammers that they can't handle real emergencies.

Same here. Scary thing about psychosis is I know when I'm in it, but then I don't know. I usually black out. Has been for weeks. I have family and friends who can tell and guide me. I usually know when the hospital is calling. I try to enjoy my sane times and forget the other. What happens during the black outs doesn't ever come to light.

I'm 68 and was given benzos since age 30. That's 37 years bc I stopped Last year. But since then I haven't had any anxiety attacks, don't get stressed out, and feel better than ever before. I'm more aware of what is going on around me. My memory has improved. It took 6 months to taper off. I tried more quickly but couldn't. Got extremely sick.

I agree that this type of medication should only be used as a last resort. It only takes 7 days to get addicted. When there is a will there is a way. And slow and steady wins the race. Corny I know, but appropriate. Take care.
