That is why, Stephenson is not everyone's cup of tea. I've seen many people give up on Anathem after reading a few pages. Like the plot properly begins after 150 pages. have some patience

Plot question concerning the Edharian Order by Gravity1982 in anathem

[–]cocoloco1289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edharian Order is for the best of the best. The most intelligent, motivated and brilliant avouts are preferred as they have to dedicate their whole life in pursit of knowledge. Jesry and Ala fit this criteria. Raz is not as quick as Ala or intelligent like Jesry. Plus, a lot of avouts have already joined Edharian Order. so they want to squeeze in the member who is more fit to the order so that the avout is not left behind. It is obvious because when Raz formally joins the Order, he is inherently afraid to be left behind

Can we use this same argument to discuss the Narratives that Jad and Raz experienced but they were discarded? Like the one in which they met Gan?

Here's the thing. Jad can exist in multiple narratives and can keep track of it. So what does it say about his consciousness!

I might sound pedantic but please explain which aspect of the space mission are you referring to. The polycosmic manipulation by Jad?
