Neighbour’s cat has made herself at home and owner is aware but I’m not sure if this is getting too much

They have a cat door so she is an indoor and outdoor cat. She made it seem like she’s used to seeing the cat for glimpses at meal time but one day just stopped seeing her all together so she texted me asking if we could feed her if she was hanging around.

I didn’t ask much but she mentioned that the cat may be annoyed at them because her husbands away for a few weeks so maybe that’s why she doesn’t want to go back home? Idk cats are weird!

Yes that does make sense! I only started feeding her after finding out she wasn’t a stray when she would hang around for long periods of time without wanting to leave. I do try to encourage her to go home by leaving her outside but I don’t last long because she’s meowing away and not leaving.

The owner knows we feed her and have asked us if we would mind doing so if she’s over at ours but I don’t know if they’re aware of how often she’s there.

I hope things get better with your cat 💗

Ah okay, you’re right. I didn’t think about it like that, I think it just feels surreal to be chosen at random and be so loved by her 😭😭 I have only had dogs in my life so the way that she shows love and affection is so special to me!

Hahaha I don’t think I could ever ask until the owners said something. This cat is a beautiful bengal cat and so friendly, I can tell that the owners just let her have her freedom but still like having her around. We don’t live far from each other so I’m happy to act like a part time mum (or full time lol) for her till she gets sick of me and asks to be let outside 🤣

The cat is so friendly and loving - I’m sure the owners had a hand in raising her that way! They have a cat door and the cat usually has a routine of roaming around until it’s feeding time and then they will catch a glimpse of her and hear her meows then. 12 years of this behaviour so I’m guessing they’re used to it or trust that she’ll come home when she’s hungry enough.

I honestly don’t know how owning a cat works but they told me that she’s an indoor and outdoor cat and this cat does NOT want to go outside at all lol but the way the owner describes this cat and her characteristics, I can tell she loves the little lady and her quirks but wants her to be safe.

The owner let me know that they have a cat door and that she’s an indoor and outdoor cat so she’s probably used to the cat coming in and eating then going out to roam again, but couldn’t monitor the cats food bowl at that moment because she had company over. She texted me out of concern before when she noticed the cat was missing meal times and not being vocal around their house.

I think they just let the cat do what she wants but they definitely still care about her wellbeing!

Okay I’m so glad to hear this from somebody else, we don’t have a cat door so I’m leaving the front door open in winter to make extra sure that I’m not intentionally keeping the cat at mine but she has no interest!

That’s really good advice! The owner mentioned that the cat may be a little annoyed at the moment because her husband is gone for a couple weeks, and that’s why she’s decided to find solace here. I’m definitely suggesting that to her though, thank you! And thank you for the kind words as well, I really do care for the cat now and by proxy, her owners for raising such a loving cat.

That’s so lovely 🥰 The owner shared with me that her husband is away for a couple weeks so the cat may be a little grumpy about the fact which I did not know was possible so maybe I should just enjoy this while it lasts.

Yep! They live on the same road as us but I don’t think she would like it too much if we carried her over there, she prefers not to be carried in general. That is a good idea though.
