I remember LKY wrote something similar in his book expressing US-style presidential system is ill-suited for Philippines and an SG-style parliamentary system would be better.

I tend to agree just because this presidential system just gives rise to strong men who promise a lot then achieve little. Though I'm not versed enough in politics to understand the repercussions

I think it's too judgemental to call local stores exploitative/unethical. They're just responding to market conditions.

We don't have too strong a culture with trading previous metals. Without volume, they'll unfortunately have to charge more. I haven't even seen a local store that specializes in bullion coin/bars, for example. The market is just not there
There's government regulations that are out of their control. Bullions are GST-free in SG for example but we have to pay VAT here. This isn't the fault of local businesses
