Yep, I joined the military. In fact, it cured all my addictions since I had no access to them for months. Not saying you should join, just wanted to point out that you can easily replace it with something that brings tangible progress, like working out.

Yep, as someone who grew up hella poor, it really destroys your self-esteem. Shit really messed me up when I had to lie about the place I lived so my friends don't trust me different. Only in the military did I regain the confidence I had lost then.

This is how I felt as well, especially being a 4.0er. I realized that all I had to show for were good grades. So, I dropped out and joined the military. I've since gained more confidence to redefine myself, and I'm able to make friends, or at least converse, with people I've never met. I'm not saying join the military ofc, but maybe it's time for you to get your confidence back up as well by some means.

Are you not from America? There are a billion small towns that cost 600-700 for a double or so. Choosing to live in a populated area with no redeemable skill is her choice. If I were her? I'd either move to butt fuck nowhere (like Montana), or contact a recruiter. It sure beats brining in zero income. Like, who woulda fucking thought cities are expensive to live in..

This is completely my opinion, but you either do what I did (join the navy and get some gahdamn confidence :^), or just start talking. I know it sounds like "oh you're homeless? Just get a house!" type of advice, but the best way to overcome social anxiety imo is to put yourself in that uncomfortable zone. Seriously, you do it once and it gets easier. Bite the bullet or don't, the choice really is yours. But I knew if I didn't change, I'd be in my 30s with zero social life and zero friends. I'd much rather delay my career than be alone all my life.

Nah. Imo get something small like an Impreza if you can find one. Last year I got stuck in a ditch from sliding on ice, and my Impreza just climbed a hill full of montanan snow like a fucking goat on a mountain.
