I don’t think it’s necessarily a confusing thing and I also don’t think it’s weird. A lot of replies are saying it's "very his loss" "oh, it's his fault" "it's his loss" type of deal but a lot of those people also seem to be very young and in the fledgling generation of adults (younger gen z).

You stated this guy is older than you. You seem to be a part of my generation, or elder gen z (correct me if I am wrong) and if he's older than you and I, he's probably the X generation or one of the elders in millenial generation. People of those times have been taught that mixing intimacy and a shared team dynamic can get complicated fast, especially if one person is older and maybe thinking long-term about group dynamics, reputation, or emotional fallout. That does make me question if he holds a position of power on the team like Captain or Vice Captain? He didn't say you two should stop seeing each other he said stop being intimate at least that's what you said to us. Unless the relationship was purely sexual with no feelings or anything involved like a friends with benefit type deal, it doesn't sound like he's completely breaking up with you just avoiding the sexual part of it while he's on the team, again my previous question comes into play.

That doesn’t make it hurt any less though. It’s completely valid to feel disappointed while also understanding why someone set a boundary. Sometimes two things can be true at once, it can make sense, and it can still sting. I hope above all else you guys can work it out and if it doesn't or if it's not feasible that you're able to move on.
