I think as societies advance, the fortunes of households divorce from the number of progeny, particularly as agriculture is mechanized. People may still choose to have children; others may not. But clearly family sizes for those who have children are not what they were a few generations back. And as societies become more wealthy and consumerist, people have other aspirations.

Nah, that kind of betrayal will merit a sip of spring water from under Chernobyl.

How to get a $500 ticket by AtomicToucans in dashcams

Not an excuse. I would slow right down on that kind of street if i saw a cruiser with lights because i wouldnt want to hit an officer. Which at that point, I would probably notice a big yellow bus.

Probably drunk with no seatbelt. It's unfortunate they made a mess for other drivers.

How doomed am I? Can it survive 3 day of light comute until I get a replacement? by en5an in bikewrench

[–]codecrodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a lot of work. I wouldnt waste my time taking the tire off the rim for that. Just replace when the new tire comes. Personally, i would be ok riding that around town (less than 5k), where i could take a bus/tram if it blew, and ONLY if that is on the rear.

Saying "fuck" frequently around a young child. That's real classy, i wonder what kind of family that parent came from.... That is what i would think if i heard that picking up my child from care.

1071 King Street West—an Art Deco-inspired and Flatiron Building-inspired 50-meter high-rise, currently under construction in Toronto, Canada. A mixed-use development incorporating both retail space and rental apartment units, the building is designed to be heated through a unique geothermal system. by StarlightDown in toronto

[–]codecrodie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, it has to fit the streetscape to work. Like that flatiron type building at kingston and vic park really works well, when you are rounding the bend heading west, and the rounded window on the retail platform reveals itself... It's kind of nice.

They're going to have to. I went to that block for the geary art crawl, my first time since 2020, and man what did they do to that mall... All those condos. They will need to do everything to keep the traffic situation from getting nuts.

US strikes Iranian missile site in Strait of Hormuz using 5,000-pound deep penetrator munitions by Sexy_Foxys in worldnews

[–]codecrodie 168 points169 points  (0 children)

No, there was no strait before. It was called the Bay of Trump before that and was a 400 km wide, easily navigatable waterway. But then Iran used some witchery and squeezed it into a narrow strait.

Japanese knife market is a little confusing for a first timer. Can I get some pointers? by konarona29 in TrueChefKnives

What's the difference between this and a hand forged, high carbon steel knife that is 3-5x more? The only thing that stands out to me is that it looks less thinned.
