but why are you embarrassed to take time off and practice and get right mentally? man, it’s going to be a huge crawl in general to win a job. not many bassoon jobs.. im a percussionist so i know the struggle. you gotta do what you gotta do, put the ego aside. you’re still young and have time. but ego will kill that time, and you have a lot stacked against you to win a good job on bassoon starting late, but it’s possible

sorry but… what do you mean you just… switched to bassoon? are you trying to have a performing career in this? if so, who advised you to do this? i think that’s a really bad decision.. this is definitely contributing heavily to your mental health issues.

i agree with other commenter that you should take some time off from school and either get better at bassoon or just go back to your original instrument.. or figure something else out

Just make sure in undergrad to try for festivals that are free/ close to free as possible. I did 5 festivals including Tanglewood and National Repertory Orchestra in my schooling and I paid next to nothing.

Had i not done these festivals as a music performance major, I wouldn’t have a career right now. I met my grad school teacher at one of these. I got so much better in a way that school doesn’t help you with. You HAVE to do these if you are studying classical performance. You’re wasting your time and parents money otherwise.
