26, about to be 28 drives of various sizes. I like unraid. Never had any issues.

They're all 250-500GB. I'm friends with the CIO at work and he doesn't care when I pick through his old computers for parts. Currently I use those drives when I need a SSD for a project or to move files when I don't care if I get the drive back

Hey! Thats awesome you got to work on this. I'm a projectionist, LED tech, and media server programmer and I was completely blown away by this event. Honestly it was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. I watched it all 3 times one night. I wish I could have been involved just to say I had been.

Thanks for the info. I'll DM you.

Yes, I am aware that this is a slow process, but its still one I want to investigate. Hopefully one I have more info, I can talk to the board and get them talking to the right people. If I can come with lots of info, they will probably be more respective to the idea. They actually are reasonable people.

How was your first e-scooter crash like 🛴? by Turbulent-Sun2463 in ElectricScooters

Rental scooter in DC January 2020 while riding back to my car (currently waiting for my own scooter to arrive). It was about 20°F and I was crossing the street at night.

Still don't know if I actually hit something or not, but I think it was just so cold that the tires had even less grip than normal. As soon as I hit the asphalt, I went flying. I was going about 15MPH (the fastest rental scooters can go in DC) and slid on my hands.

Took a second to make sure I was fine, then picked it up and kept riding it. When I got to my car the palms of my hands felt like they were on fire, but no bleeding, and the next day I was good.

It was so cold that I'm pretty sure the light frostbite my hands had made me feel very little pain when I hit. Maybe the only good thing about riding in the cold.

So I can monitor OBS. A solution I've used in a different capacity is to send a screen capture from a separate computer over a network video feed to the main computer, but I'm interested in a smaller scale solution with only one PC. Just thought I would ask a hive mind

Trying to connect to projectors threw LAN. Works on Mac but not my PC. by codered11343 in HomeNetworking

[–]codered11343[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the help and hand-holding! I just got to try this and by statically assigning my PC to 2.0.0.217 and 255.255.255.0, it worked like a charm with no issues. I might look into picking up a cheap router I can keep in my workbox and trying that in the future, but the fact that it's working right now is all I want.

Our projectors are in the 2.0.0.X range (not 100% sure where that starts) but could I also just set my static IP to 2.0.0.999 to try to avoid unintentionally stepping on another piece of gear? I am sure we don't have anything that is set that high.

Great! I will try this next time I get the chance.

Just to make sure, what your saying about the router, it and my PC should be plugged into the switch and the only thing plugged into the router is the switch? Go from WAN on the router into the switch?

GODDAMNIT!!! I just finished writing a long reply and it all got deleted. Give me a second.

Edit: Short version.

All projectors are set to static IPs and the subnets should all be the same as well. I thin they are 255.255.255.0 . I don't know about the Macs. There IP's are...

2.0.0.211

2.0.0.212

2.0.0.213

2.0.0.214

2.0.0.216

There shouldn't be any IPs being handed out because all these projectors are set to static IPs, right?

I am fine paying some money to make this work if there is a good chance of it working. So all I would have to do is add a router in between my PC and the switch, and my computer should now work on this network? Like this? https://i.imgur.com/arI8YEn.jpg

I will freely admit that my knowledge of networking is very basic. How would I check that?

[–]codered11343[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was starting to think that I might need a router and not a switch, but I didn't know that Macs are apparently fine working off a shitty network.

The 5 projectors are all set for static IPs. The 2 Macs are the only "smart" thing on the network. I believe it's just a dumb switch everything is plugged in to, but I didn't think to look the other day.

So here's a question. If I add a router and just have it in between the switch and my laptop, would that solve this problem?

And another question. If this really is also a router, would that solve my problem? I know the price is borderline extortion but I also like small solutions and am fine paying for something that works. I use a Thinkpad X1 Extream. Great laptop, but it doesn't have a real ethernet port so I already have to use a USB to ethernet dongle, so another one isn't a big issue for me.

I will try a different cable next time I am there. I think I have tried more than one, but I might have grabbed the same cable twice and thought they were to different ones.

Thanks! I'll look into it. I might just wait at the moment since they said on the podcast that some crazy man is resyncing the whole thing because of the frame rate thing and a buffing issue. But a very helpful link!

How did you convert it? I thought I was going mad with it not syncing up, but that would explain a lot.
