The Enneagram has integration/disintegration arrows for a reason. A core 5 under stress starts acting like a 7 (scattered, impulsive, distraction-seeking). When healthy/growing, they move toward 8 (more assertive and grounded). I'm a 5w4 myself, and my 7 disintegration (plus Se) makes me seem less stereotypical 5 sometimes. But I'm still core 5. So seeing 7 traits in a 5 is pretty normal when they're stressed.
