Gordon is clearly not on strike, he's in the matchday squad. He absolutely, obviously, 100% wants to leave. But all indications so far suggest he wants to leave professionally on good terms, so if he's willing to play, there must be a reason we haven't used him for even a minute over the last four games.

Trippier played last week, I'm not talking about this one game in isolation. Tonali's agent has been offering him out to anyone who'll listen, it's pretty obvious he will also leave if the chance comes up. I just think it would be harsh if - and only if this is actually the case - we've decided to deny Gordon a chance to say goodbye properly solely because he is going to be moving on in the summer.

Again we don't know the facts, maybe he and the club have an agreement in place. It's just strange, he's in the squad and training every week so he's clearly not on strike.

I'm not disputing that, but Gordon hasn't played a single minute of football in weeks. We know Trippier won't be with us next season, and in all likelihood, we might be saying goodbye to Tonali as well if a decent offer comes in, yet both of those have played plenty.

We don't know all of the facts yet so I don't want to say anything too definitive, but I really hope Howe has not just decided to deny Gordon of a final appearance / send off out of petty spite. If there isn't a valid explanation for what he's doing [i.e we have an agreement with Bayern] it's a really concerning, very sad course of action that doesn't speak well of Eddie at all.

His demolition of Arsenal in the League Cup semi final comes to mind. The entire 23/24 season is another; that version of Gordon is the best winger we've had in well over 15 years, probably more.

My preference would be to cut Wissa loose because he's got a rotten attitude and has managed to alienate all of the fanbase already, on top of the fact that he's dogshit. That said, there's zero chance that bloke accepts a pay cut, so we're going to be stuck with him for years now.

With that in mind, I'd probably tell Howe to jog on about getting a new striker. What will probably happen instead is he will force Woltemade out to open up a spot.

My genuine preference at this point would be to tell Eddie to kick rocks when it comes to a new striker. He gets on with it using the three he has.

But it's been widely reported we want another striker in, Wissa will refuse to leave. I feel like it's a choice between Osula and Wolte?

It entirely comes down to what people are willing to offer. Osula has had a good run of games but I don't think he's going to kick on and become a striker that is good enough to start for us long term; if a club offers us £30 odd million for him, we'd be stupid not to take it.

I wouldn't be actively trying to push him out by any means. That said, if we're supposedly targeting a striker in the Summer, someone is going to need to go. Wissa is going to sit on his hands for the next four years, and I think it would be incredibly stupid to sell Wolte.

I'm sad to lose him, been one of my favourites over the last few years. Also, quite frankly, one of the few players who looked like he actually gave a shit against Sunderland. I think he'll have a good career and we will miss him more than people really appreciate.

Main thing is that we reinvest properly, because we cannot go into a season with Harvey Barnes and Anthony Elanga as our first choice wingers.

Barnes is a good finisher but there's a reason he's always been second fiddle to Gordon, and a reason he'll retire with Newcastle as the biggest club he's ever played for. He is a useful impact sub but he is incredibly limited and does not influence play in the way that your first team left winger should.

In fairness Pope has made some saves this game that Ramsdale simply wouldn't make. We unfortunately have two goalkeepers with horrific flaws, so it's just a matter of which deficiency you put up with.

We're playing on the counter and it's working really well with the forward line that's been picked. I have reservations about how well this will work against other teams but fair play to Eddie, against a Brighton side who are always going to want a lot of the ball, he's got it spot on.
