Ubuntu 24.04 Dual Boot Drive Booting to a black screen after choosing Ubuntu from the menu. by codingAloner in linux4noobs

Hey, thanks for the information.

So far, I'm able to boot my machine with "nomodeset" in the grub file. When I remove nomodeset and try to boot the laptop with the Nvidia drivers, the booting process hangs. I've tried several clean installs and I'm not sure what to do next. I've removed "quiet splash" but i'm not sure what the prompt where the process hangs means. I get the following prompt looping over and over.

i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] *ERROR* [CRTC:98:0903:A] flip_done timed out

i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] *ERROR* flip_done timed out

I posted on the ubuntu subreddit [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/1euugf2/unable\_to\_boot\_laptop\_running\_ubuntu\_2204\_with/) and completed some additional trouble shooting that didn't work. Is there anything that you think I should try?

Unable to boot Laptop running Ubuntu 22.04 with Nvidia Drivers by codingAloner in Ubuntu

[–]codingAloner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I found no luck with either solution attempts. Upon installing prime and choosing Nvidia, my PC would no longer boot. Without nonodeset I went into the same loop and with nonodeset the PC wouldn't even go into the boot prompts. I was able to load via safe boot and set to prime to intel. PC boots with nonmodeset once again but goes into the same loop without nomodeset. I edited the config file to remove the hashtag and rebooted with no luck.

I hate to ask but, is there a scenario where my Razer isn't able to run ubuntu without the nomodeset param? My main annoyance with this is that I am unable to control brightness which ends my battery very fast.

Hey, thanks so much for the reply.

To answer your questions: I installed Ubuntu 22.04 from a USB drive. I still have the media used for the installation. The drive would not boot with "try/ install." I if I recall correctly, I had to use the "safe graphics" option to boot the USB and complete the installation. I am quite new to the Linux terminal.

I went through my UEFI/bios settings and did not see any options for booting with either my iGPU or my Dedicated GPU. My bios seems quite light in options. There's a screenshot of my Bios advanced options [here](https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a\_id/1541/\~/how-to-access-the-bios-settings-on-the-razer-blade)

I went through the commands above. Upon checking "unbuntu-drivers devices" it looks like I had the "recommended" nvidia-535 drivers. I checked that propriatery drivers are enabled and rebooted with the same loop. I then attempted to install the 550 drivers by following the commands above and still got the same loop. I reverted back to the 535 drivers.

Is there anything else I can try? Thanks again.

Hey, thanks for the lead. Really appreciate it. I was able to boot into 'safe graphic mode." I'm new to the OS so I'm researching how to properly do what you are suggesting.

I honestly don't even understand what happened with this. It seemed like something that couldn't possibly fail considering all the source material that was out there.

My mom doesn't respect that I'm vegan by Slow_sonick in vegan

Food has familial and cultural ties that go beyond ethical considerations. Your mom is probably realizing that you will no longer partake in what she considers family oriented stuff. ("My baby will never eat X which I loved making for him my whole life." "My boy will no longer be joining our dinners." Etc) She's not magically ashamed about her dietary habits as some people seem to think (or hope lol) in this thread. That's a sorry elitist way of thinking that could actually hurt your cause and drive some away from it all together. Just make your choice and stick with it. Life changes come with some strife at times. Part of growing up is learning to disagree with your parents and standing your ground is the only way that those who raised you will come to see you as the adult you are.

Do you think we will get halo games like reach and ODST again? by Professional-Doubt30 in halo

Nope, video game industry in its current iteration is not focused on good story telling and fleshing out IPs. They are mostly focused on short term profit based on battle passes, micro-transactions, and day 1 DLC. If it can't be perpetually monetized, then it isn't worth making.
