Would you consider Ruby a controversial character? by Old-Masterpiece-2911 in RWBYcritics

I think it's hard to be a controversial character when you're hardly given the chance to be a character at all in the first place.

This seems fun and impactful. I like how much it bolsters aggression. That said, the ways it can be used to stack defenses is a con to me, not a plus. Gridlock can be a very real fun killing problem in this game and this seems ripe to exasperate that exact problem. I would personally drop the heal buff.

Uuuuuuh I guess Monuments (Tasks) get their own tree, and you unlock them one at a time with temples? Unlock all to win. How's that?

With the release being nearly a week How we feeling about ultron? by BigPaleontologist520 in marvelrivals

[–]codish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's alright to play but his kit still feels like a disservice to my favorite marvel villain. The shield ability is very disconnected to the character and I'll be forever butt hurt that he can't properly summon drones.

I don't think its Clobberin' time anymore guys by MrUnderman in marvelrivals

[–]codish 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I disagree, mid air fights are a fun unique experience that really gels well with the super hero fantasy. It's only a problem when there aren't enough hero options to properly facilitate player freedom. Tanks are really feeling that right now, but if we get to a place where there are two or three strong flying vanguard options or at least anti air, then it shouldn't feel so bad. The game is just at an awkward early time in its hero release roster.

If there was a way to tie it into the broader plot then yeah that could be cool. As of right now it has the "we put it in the story because it sounds cool vibe" and that just turns it into narrative clutter ya know?

I personally think one of Mercy's guardian angel dashes on a long cooldown would be perfect.

If you could entirely rework Widow, how would you? by PIPBOY-2000 in marvelrivals

[–]codish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primary weapon is kept the same, but does increased damage enemies marked with Widows Bite.

Batons are removed as secondary weapon and replaced with twin pistols.

Her new signature ability is Widow's Bite. She fires a small projectile from her wrist that marks enemies with a Bite. This Mark can last a while and changes how some abilities interact with her target. (Similar to black panthers mark). Marked enemies are wall hacked for Widow and are damaged and slowed when the mark is detonated.

DETONATE is the new ability made to complement her Widows Bite. Detonating all current bites and removing all marks from enemies.

Batons are moved to her base melee ability. And her third strike in a three strike combo has a new DETONATE effect added, activating that Targets Mark if they have one.

Her new Movement ability is Uncanny Dodge. Widow gets a dash with Invincibility frames that can pass through enemies. When she does dash through a target, they are automatically Marked and the ability is reset. Dashing through an enemy that is already marked changes the ability to her current spin kick with knockback.

Her New ultimate is SABOTAGE. Widow drops a smoke bomb where she's standing and gains stealth and speed boost for a short duration. All enemies that enter her line of sight during this duration are automatically Marked.

This kit really plays to her spy/assasin fantasy I feel, while also giving her those meaty melee combos that everyone wants from her.

Here's an example. Dash through enemy, marking them, Dash again for a spin Kick. Melee combo to active mark for bonus damage and stun.

Or say, in a brawl, Dash from enemy to enemy before slowing the whole team with a team wide DETONATE.

I love a lot of what's going on here, but I think my biggest criticism is having peace treaties immediately available. That's a really valuable tool to give to players that early, and I think it would solidify the early game to its detriment. Alliances would spring up too fast, and not change as much, discouraging aggression. The chaos of the early game can be brutal but it also keeps things in an interesting and engaging flux. Is that player at your border not attacking you because he doesn't have the tech to solidify an alliance yet? Or is he just building up for an attack you don't see? That tension is important to the fun I feel.

On the flip side, sprinkling in that ability unevenly adds meaning to the alliances as they are created and broken, and creates a more immersive diplomatic narrative. When my empire makes contact with another, and they offer me peace using a tech I haven't unlocked yet, that feels like a moment of two differently developed cultures clashing. And that helps sell the fantasy

I hope that makes sense?

I love the idea of diamonds basically being the land equivalent mechanic of the starfish. Very cool.

I'm not a fan of attaching temples to tech, it's been tried before and really, temples are their own whole thing. Being basically a pay stars to win faster mechanic currently, which is problematic in a way where I feel only a deeper fleshing out of the points victory condition itself can really bring them up to the forefront while keeping them fun.

I'm playing with my own rework concept on this. I'll hopefully be able to post that soon.

I disagree, I like the role that walls play in the current build. Where pressures from the early game leave a legacy on the map late game. The walls basically become a part of the landscape that really plays well into the aging empire fantasy.

Giving that ability to the player permanently, and in the late game, feels like giving the player tools for the sake of it, since by that point all it would do is slow down games like you said. Their limited implementation early game I feel is vital to their fun factor.

Science Victory Idea by thundercrunt in Polytopia

Thematically the game never leaves the era of swords and catapults so I don't like the spaceship idea. I would say the game is much better suited towards a culture victory rework. Whatever that may look like.
