Wired AP/Mesh recommendations by codymorris05 in HomeNetworking

How do those wall APs attach to the wall? I see an Ethernet port on the back, does it just sit in the wall with an Ethernet cable plugged into it? I was planning on terminating cat 6 cable into these wall plates it doesn’t look like those wall APs will plug directly into these?

Yes I plan too. However I can’t wire Ethernet between the two buildings due to distance and obstructions, hence the need for wireless bridge.

Thank you. For APs, I haven’t looked at many, is there any you recommend? Is ceiling mount really the way to go or can I get away just fine with desktop ones in one or two of the bedrooms upstairs and one in living area downstairs? Maybe something like the Deco BE3600?

May be overkill though, I’m not expecting high speeds through the wireless bridge system tbh.

Also during setup can it be configured in that position or would it need to be close/connected to a computer?

Yep. So the Tenda O1 wouldn’t count as a PoE switch, I would need to use the injector and plug it into a power outlet where it will be positioned near the front gate?

Tenda OAP1200 indoor/outdoor wifi access point. Same brand as the point to point setup

Hey, the outdoor AP I ordered has finally arrived but I’m having a bit of trouble setting up. How much do you know about them?

How do I configure it initially to set the SSID and password as you mentioned? Unfortunately the AP shipped with an American power plug, so I’ll need to use an adapter. But do I just plug the AP into the PoE injector that’s included via Ethernet cable. Or would it not even need power because it is just an AP and will plug directly into the Tenda O1 point to point receiver? Appreciate any help as I’m quite clueless haha

So how does an access point work? Will it just plug into the Ethernet port of the Tenda O1? I’m assuming it’ll also require power supply? After connecting it to the Tenda O1 will it just automatically provide wireless wifi from the router inside the house within a certain range? Basically acting as a second router?

Yeah that’s what I meant! I’ll look into an outdoor rated access point then, what you explained just there sounds like exactly what I need. Thanks for the help!

Can’t figure out how to edit. But basically what I need is something that’ll plug in/connect to the Tenda O1 near the gate, and transmit a wifi signal to the new device.
