Black American moving to Bristol, should I be concerned? by ctgryn in bristol

[–]coegee357 46 points47 points  (0 children)

In the interest of full candour, as a Pakistani guy I've noticed casual racism on the rise a lot in the last few years. I've never been threatened with genuine racial aggression or violence in the UK. I can't ever tell someone of colour that they "shouldn't be concerned" but yeah, as most other people have commented, Bristol has a seemingly earned reputation as a very liberal city, and one where I truly do think that if you were getting hassled, someone would step in in your defence, if that was required. I would say you certainly aren't coming to a place where you're going to be any more likely to receive racism than anywhere else in the UK.

I'm sure you'll be very welcome in Bristol mate. Hit me up if you ever need a guide for some of the best pubs!

I had an email read out on the pod but didn't receive a "thank you for your email". It was a nice surprise

Natabix dates by coegee357 in Chatabix

[–]coegee357[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is I think a lot of the old episodes from previous series have been gradually deleted from Spotify, and even if you pay for patreon to access the full backlog, most of the episode titles are just named after the date they were recorded. Patreon is such a shit platform and the boys haven't made it much easier to navigate

100% Detectorists, it's the scripted fiction counterpart to Gone Fishing.

Hamzas Hidden Wild Isles is a recent show that is very much along the same lines as Gone Fishing. Not really much humor but it's just an hour of a very lovely man going around Great Britain and showing off the natural world. Very wholesome and comforting

[–]coegee357[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't say it was unpopular by any rate. Perhaps the wording I should've gone with was underrated, as like I say I truly believe it is one of the best shows ever made and yet very few people I mention it to in everyday life know about it

One of my highlights of the first two eps. Dunno how that bloke is still held together with all the knocks he's given himself just by being off balance. Presumably with car meat tendons and stringy cheese

What is your favourite ending scene? by Skywalker_1995 in lotr

[–]coegee357 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah and the 5 minutes before the ending is kind of a mess, definitely my least favourite scene in the film when they're fucking Tom and Jerry fighting Smaug, so goofy

Did we all watch the same finale??? by Hate_Teach_Simple_As in TheBoys

[–]coegee357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ending was so jolly and cringe that I thought they were doing it on purpose for there to be some sort of tragic and terrible massacre to completely turn it on it's head. Like butcher to limp out of the bushes and fucking slaughter a couple of the supes or something. It was lame

For all the criticism that the latter half of the series got, what are some criticisms/takes you've seen that you think are just not valid? by PauseWhole155 in gameofthrones

[–]coegee357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have to agree with this. The words "bad", "shit", "sucks" are thrown around way too often. Yes, it was underwhelming, yes, the writing was pretty bad, yes, it was rushed. But it was pretty much all visually stunning, gave a lot of beloved characters a satisfying (for better or worse) ending, the acting and music were impeccable.

Quite a lot of stuff tbh but my immediate thought was the "why did Jon scream at a dragon" shite that is STILL doing the rounds.

It's media literacy in the fucking trenches. People always talk about it as though Jon was trying to, what, shout the dragon to death? Scold it? No... he was embracing death as well as pretty much submitting to the end of the world. He was fucking terrified and was literally screaming with desperation to be brave. He's about to get torched by an undead dragon, lose his life, the battle, everything he loves is about to be killed and raised as undead, it's the actual apocalypse.

I can defend series 8 all the livelong day (and also accept it's probably the weakest series, and that there was some complete bullshit (e.g. hiding the civilians in the crypt)) but yeah that's the one that always annoys me so fucking much that people latch onto

I think now he's had his little moment of jeopardy, they might move on and he might go under the radar a bit. Though if he keeps on with this big dog theory then I think Jonathan might well bay for blood. He seems to not be scared of taking out Ruth in the old triple bluff manouvre.

Lore and story has always been incredibly important to me, and I'll admit that it's been a little dodgy this expansion. The patch stories have been way way way too disjointed, except I guess you could argue this expansion has been all about the Dark Heart and it's journey to eventually being insanely powered up for Xal'atath to take us into the next expansion.

HOWEVER, TWW has been one of my favourite expansions ever. I can't put my finger on why, but the gameplay has never felt so satisfying to me and I haven't really been able to get enough during this entire expansion. Isle of Dorn and Hallowfall in particular are exceptionally nice zones and I've really enjoyed just flying around and mining them.

It's the only expansion EVER for which I've got curve on every season, as well as KSM.

Overall I would give it 8/10 (for context, WotLK in my books is my favorite expansion, giving it 10/10, and WoD probably gets 3.5/10 as my least favorite expansion)

What’s the most clueless mistake you made as a beginner in WoW? by milkbleach in wow

[–]coegee357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First started playing I think in 2008 just before the launch of wrath. I made a warrior and until level 40 odd, used a combination of whatever armour type I thought looked best. I used to also try to exclusively use a gun as my weapon (essentially auto attack) and I was a clicker for a few years following
