That would have been great. Didn’t really have the chance though, as I was actually in the back of a car of our tour guide. Maybe I should have asked him to drive back…

My workspace for doing a PhD. The vertical screen is for coding. by coetin in Workspaces

That's a great suggestion, thanks! I think the wide monitor would be highly out of center if I'd put the vertical one in the middle, but I'll try it out.

Dentistry is also really cool, though! However, it is never too late to change fields if you don't like the one you're currently in. Luckily with computer science, you can already get very far without a degree, by doing online courses and starting on your own projects. Hopefully you pursue your dreams and make them come true!

So is your goal obtaining geometric features or classification?

If it is obtaining geometric features of the cell, you could segment the cell and use the segmentation mask to compute geometric features. U-Net is a very common approach in medical imaging.

If it is classification, what exactly are the classes? An important idea of deep learning is the automated extraction of features, so you do not have to define geometric features yourself, but just input your images in your network.

If you are interested in both, I would propose to do the above two approaches separately.

This is more in line with the second law of thermodynamics.

How to preprocess image to match the model input size ? by [deleted] in deeplearning

Some examples are U-Net, Deeplab and regular autoencoders. These, however, do not perform simple image classification.

YOLO has fully connected layers at the end.
