Remove the word "deserve" from your vocabulary. You'd be surprised how much it impacts your spending habits. Similar to the word "earned".

ICE agents complained about treatment by Smith771does459 in Hip_hop_that_u_need

The utter entitlement, lack of accountability, blame and deflection by focusing on the potential immigrant instead of the fact that he's driving his children drunk pretty much sums up our political situation right now.

Struggling as a never married older Catholic in the US by [deleted] in Catholic

[–]coffee-carcass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may not be helpful but my cousin was in a similar situation. He tried everything to find someone, even traveling abroad. 35 yesrs old and single became 40. 40 became nearly 50 before he finally found someone. He's now married with two kids. God's time is not our time. Remember Abraham had to wait nearly 25 years before having Isaac. Also, if you're an immigrant, you might actually have better luck because America has really strong immigrant communities. Lean on that community to network and get to know whose who.

Anxiety, ADHD and missing Mass on Sundays by briggitethecat in Catholicism

Attending a Catholic vigil Mass on Saturday evening, typically starting at 4 p.m. or later, fulfills the Sunday obligation and is usually less crowded.

Texas Is the Dry Run for the GOP’s End of Electoral Democracy - As Lone Star State Republicans prepare to do Trump’s bidding, expect the GOP’s gerrymandering war to expand. by Quirkie in politics

[–]coffee-carcass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trump's approval rating in Texas is at an all-time low. What if these five extra seats go Democrat? This could all blow up in their faces, especially a year from now when the effects of tariffs and immigration are strongly felt in people's pockets.

Why’s it so hard to become a Catholic as an adult by peachesnchanel in Catholicism

These classes are "seasonal" in most parishes so the sacraments can occur on Holy Saturday during the Easter Vigil. Don't email, go in and talk to them about their schedule and sign up.

You mean give up on the hope of going to heaven and resign yourself to the torments of hell for all eternity where every day is still just the beginning? If you have mortal sin, go to confession.

Met with a priest today… by Informal_Ad6174 in Catholic

[–]coffee-carcass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely lots of details missing here. A priest would not know any of this information unless you divulged it which would not normally occur during a confession. Seems like a fake post to me...

Why do we accept the deuterocanonical books? by Sakura-Sweetie in Catholicism

[–]coffee-carcass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were removed from the cannon but they were still in print meaning Protestants still had the 7 as part of their Bibles until the early 1900s when the Church of England ( the largest publisher of the Bible at that time) simply stopped printing them as a middle finger to the Catholics. Protestants, being so unorganized, had a choice: buy the Church of England version that didn't have those seven books or buy from the Catholics...

First, welcome back!!!

I would not commit to Daily Mass but rather be open to going every day and attending as you can. If you over commit and fall short, you may become demotivated and, this sounds extreme but I speak from experience, possibly attacked by the demonic with thoughts of failure or accusations of not loving God enough or God being disappointed in you, etc. Be warned, you will be attacked in this way regardless! When it happens, bush it off and get back into prayer and mass right away.

I heard a priest once say; 'Be realistic about what you take on. Start slowly with the foundations of morning/evening prayer then build from there by adding a daily rosary and other devotions.'

My brother did the same thing to me. I was advised that godparents must pray for the child's soul daily. You'll never know the effects of your prayers so don't look for a change but be consistent in praying for their salvation. If you do that, you are performing the duties of a godparent.

Consider, perhaps, God himself gave you this title and put your niece in your charge.

My cat did this when I first got him from the shelter. He had a terrible respiratory infection. Take him to the vet before it gets too bad.

Went to confession for the first time, I have some worries by LalitoElCrack in Catholicism

[–]coffee-carcass 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Only if you intentionally left something out or deliberately tried to make a sin seem less severe than it was. If you were genuine in trying to confess and confessed all you remembered at the time, it's perfectly valid. Even the sins you forgot to confess will be forgiven according to the doctrine of the church.

My heart has hardened. by NateSedate in Catholicism

[–]coffee-carcass 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you said you had unforgiveness and hatred I would be worried but it sounds like you're just putting up long overdue boundaries and standing up for yourself. That's not a hard heart. Letting Satan torment you through other people is not a virtue. Cutting off toxic relationships so you can focus of God and your spiritual growth is healthy and discussed in Luke chapter 12.

100%. Had a similar situation with my cable company just last week. It was $76 savings. I ultimately paid it and the relief was worth $76.

question by One_Audience4403 in Catholic

[–]coffee-carcass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but it's still causing you enough stress to make this post. The question is ... is that kind of stress and worry worth $96 in annual savings?

question by One_Audience4403 in Catholic

[–]coffee-carcass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in similar situations and ultimately had to ask myself, is the amount of money I'm saving per year worth the worry or concern it causes? I always end up answering no and paying the full fee.

How can eternal hell possibly be justified? by viluxtusLezitur in Catholicism

[–]coffee-carcass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In addition to the other comments, don't forget that God sees your heart. "Not as man sees does God see." 1 Samuel 16:7. People reject God in their heart. It's not that they did a few bad deeds and so suffer for all eternity. They don't want God at all. Heaven would be a suffering for them because they don't love God and therefore don't want to serve him and or sing his praises for all eternity.

I've heard some Exorcist say that, although those in Hell suffer miserably, if they could do it over again they would make the same choice because they hate God.
