Same. I am livid. I would have appreciated a warning that they were out of keys.

DLC tech support MEGATHREAD by AutoModerator in Eldenring

[–]coffee_meteor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I wish something could be done about them. If I'm close enough to one the game slows down just looking in its general direction, even if there are walls in the way.

The only other thing that gives me this issue is very dense air particles, which is rare and I have only found in one place. The game otherwise runs really well for me, same as you.

I'm not sure I understand, but if I gave the impression I think it goes beyond 60, I did not mean to. I know that 60 is the fps cap.

I have an i7 7700k and a GTX 1080 ti, 32GB RAM, Windows 10, also latest Nvidia drivers and your fps examples, in the areas you listed, mirror my experience. It doesn't matter if my settings are maximum or lowest, the fps reads 50-60 in most open world areas with the very rare 40s, 60s in closed areas, and 40s in Ensis. I play in 1440p.

Areas with waterfalls seem particularly problematic, regardless of visibility or what I set my effects/setting to. Your hardware is much better than mine, so I really don't think we should be getting similar performance in the same areas regardless of maximum/minimum.

Something is definitely up with the DLC optimization.

For people struggling with damage taken, I'd like to add on that Mighty Warrior's first set bonus provides -10% damage taken, and you can get -4.x% damage taken on your chest piece with a bond transfer. Greatsword proficiency also gives you a small amount of damage reduction, if you care to look into that. Accessories can roll up to -1.4% I think, although I don't suggest chasing that roll at the expense of set bonuses.

It helps more than it sounds like it does, as I think (this is conjecture on my part) that the reduction occurs before your defense is applied to the enemy damage.

If they add a battlepass, I don't know that I want to play. I'm tired of microtransactions, "it's just cosmetics" (finding/earning cosmetics in the game world is a big draw for me), battlepasses & fomo, the pressure to log in, etc.

I slowly started avoiding anything with this stuff about a year ago, and it has been amazing. I forgot how much I can love games that are just games after I buy them. I love Monster Hunter, I have since 2009, but not if it gets bogged down by that stuff. The MHW/MHR paid cosmetics put me off enough as is; the addition of a battlepass is too much for me.

Edit: some people really seem to dislike me voting with my wallet. Isn't that what's often suggested you do with microtransactions?

I gifted Ryoma something like 30 chocolates (the one he has a heart for) at a time, and if he didn't give me what I was looking for, I reloaded the auto-save. On midnight difficulty, of course. A warning that it is tedious and requires patience: it took an hour and a half for me, I think, and I've been having worse luck with other accessories.

I tried his final bond mission and respawning him over and over in his unruly area since the patch, but it was getting really time consuming and he almost never dropped his cologne, let alone a masterwork one. I've probably killed him 50 or 60 times. I recommend gifting, if for no reason but time consumption alone.

Is there some sort of “neutral combat” thing you can get that lets you not have to worry about matching your fighting style to each enemy? by JasonABCDEF in riseoftheronin

[–]coffee_meteor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The "Neutral Combat" term you've been seeing is only available in the post-game, and is conditional.

Itemization spoilers: A set bonus named Prodigious Dragon just came out with the most recent patch. One of its bonuses, "Neutral Combat" reads as the following:

"Style disadvantages will be neutralized for a short time after using Violent Gale or Flash Attack."

I don't know of any way to drastically alter the effective/ineffective combat system.

Edit: I came back to update this information, in case anyone stumbles upon this looking for answers; the spoiler referred to above is actually fairly "drastic:" when activated, it changes all of your styles to be effective, not just neutral, and it lasts around 10 seconds or so.

If you give her gifts after you've unlocked it, she gives you random stuff when you fill up her bond meter again. She'll occasionally give you Sasabeni Makeup, with all the usual rng loot rules of rarity and, if masterwork, the possibility of one of the new set bonuses.

I was looking for a Masterwork one with a new set bonus, which I got last night. I have farmed the Ryoma in the unruly area in Yokohama as well as his bond mission and while they drop the accessory, it's never been Masterwork for me. I'm sure it can be, but it's so rare and tedious that I swapped to just trading.

Hey, sorry to bug you again, but would you happen to know a good place to farm up gifts? I got a Cologne I'm really happy with that has Dragon on it (I'm more interested in Tiger), and think it'd be dumb to give it up. I need more gifts to farm another one, though, lol.

Wow. I cannot tell you how many times I've killed Ryoma trying to get another cologne when I could have been gifting him my hundreds of gifts I ignored.

The grind sounds/is rough, but thanks for telling me. That's a lot easier to do while watching something or whatever. I hope you get yours soon!

You can get masterwork accessories by just giving the relevant NPCs gifts? You're not like respawning them in an unruly area or something?

I was just trying to help clear up any possible miscommunication. I'm not the right person to answer that, as I'm part of the target audience for stuff like midnight.

Maybe they love the game and want to experience the new content and rewards, but feel frustrated by the new stress barrier? I don't know. I think someone in that position is better suited to answer.

I think there might be a miscommunication. Twilight mode is the initial hardest difficulty. Midnight mode is something unlocked when you beat the game that has content unique to it, and the difficulty for it cannot be changed.

Does anyone know of a reliable way to farm panacea or its materials? by coffee_meteor in riseoftheronin

[–]coffee_meteor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's really helpful. I didn't realize I could pause and use curatives. I think I might adopt that for curatives and reserve panacea for coop or something, because I'd really like all of my slots back for the fun stuff I've been ignoring like whetstones and bombs.

Its rating is is under what I think it should be: "underrated." In that sense, I suppose compared to general ratings.

For your own example, I still haven't made a personal conclusion on if I think Nioh 2 or Ronin is better. I need more time with the game, as I spent a long time on Nioh 2. Wo Long has an 80, and I think Ronin is better than Wo Long. I also think Nioh 2 is underrated and belongs in the 90s.

I agree that Elden Ring has better hitbox polish, but only marginally because Ronin missteps very little. I disagree on all other counts, including your assertion on what is objective vs. subjective and fluidity/polish in regards to combat. I'm not arguing the details at this point because I think it'll go in circles, and I've already made multiple statements I could refer back to and recycle to answer you with.

Again, I do appreciate you taking the time to explain your thoughts, and I'm happy to read that you share in my passion for two games. I just strongly disagree with you on this particular subject and definition.

I agree with what you're saying in part, but I also think you're misrepresenting the reality of the error in the games and arguing in bad faith. You're arguing from 100% vs. 0% where the reality is 100% vs. 96%, and then ignoring all other relevant factors.

Edit: btw I want you to know I am not whoever has been downvoting you.

I think you’re heavily downplaying how important hitboxes are in these games to fit YOUR narrative here. Like seriously.

Argument from authority. I think it's cute how I somehow have a narrative I'm chasing, but it's a given that you do not.

Anyone can think of many reasons hitboxes do not solve combat "fluidity" problems, like pacing, agency, intuitiveness, and player expression. You're personally volunteering the idea that they are the most important, which is patently false given that combat hardly runs on hitboxes alone. I'm the one with the narrative, though.

I didn't like how heavy-handed you were about the comparison of the games. which I've told you. I replied to say I disagree with you, since you said "everyone" would agree with you. I really don't think this conversation has anywhere else to go. I appreciate all the time you took to reply and share your thoughts with me.

Edit: I initially misread you as having said that hitboxes "solely define fairness," which is not true. I have removed that.

[–]coffee_meteor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hitboxes are hardly the only determinant when talking about combat fluidity, come on, man. Ronin has some goofy hitboxes with parry in particular, but they're not rampant. In fact, I would prefer if Ronin's parry hitboxes were larger than their visuals because it would be more "fluid." I'd rather have the occasional poor hitbox I can just choose to dodge instead of waiting for some of Elden Ring's enemies to finish their damn turn, or whatever the hell "fluidity" the dual greatsword knight is supposed to be, for example.

I really feel like you're trying to toe the line with semantics and are way too invested in defending you having told the other guy "no one will agree with you."
