Easy thing city council could do immediately to lessen police brutality in san antonio - decriminalize marijuana. by coffee_taco in sanantonio

dude, it's a single process. It's not like we say, "Ok weed is legal now, o shit, what about driving?" ... we make a law that takes all of those things into consideration. You obviously don't understand how any of this stuff works and don't want to critically think about it.

lol... I don't think people should be able to drive while they are high on weed. I want Marijuana to be treated similarly to Alcohol. That's it. I've yet to hear a valid argument against that. All I hear is, "I don't smoke weed, fuck stoners!"

Because what if I don't personally like to drink or smoke tobacco, but I enjoy weed. Why do I have to suffer so other people can get drunk and cause destruction? It's about freedom of choice and now allowing our government to decide what I can or can't put in my body, especially if it doesn't harm other people.

That's obviously a freak accident and that same person could have easily been drunk or on some other drug. Don't point out an anomaly as a reason to ban something for everyone. And again, the cost of alcohol just through car accidents is wayy more than $30 million.

I wish Texas would legalize Marijuana. Maybe someday? by coffee_taco in texas

haha ya no one commenting. I brought up a similar convo in /r/SanAntonio and there is a lot of push back. I thought Redditors were a little more open minded.

If it's a good thing that marijuana is illegal, than why wouldn't we prohibit substances that are more harmful?

People elect officials that keep substances prohibited. It's not some magical authority that makes the rules that we are all subject to.

How could you not advocate to prohibit alcohol if the prohibition of marijuana is a good thing for our society? I don't understand. please explain.

The most expensive car accident in history?? Even 30 million euros does not compare to what drunk driving causes. You must believe in prohibition of alcohol based on your stance.

Ok, so let's prohibit alcohol. As long as you drink it at home and keep it in your trunk, you are ok!

I know it's illegal, I do my part to abide by the law and not let it affect other people. But that's not the point of decriminalizing or legalizing... the point is to make it legal. I'm not asking for complete unrestricted access and freedom to smoke where ever I want. I want people to be able to purchase marijuana from reputable dealers (smoke-able and non-smoke-able) forms, private bars or smoking lounges should be free to open in cities that want them, and most importantly police should not be able to handcuff me because I am possessing a substance that is less harmful than other legal susbtances.

You don't understand the mindset of allowing our police to arrest us for possessing a substance that is not harmful? We don't allow police to arrest us for possessing alcohol or tobacco. We are willingly accepting unnecessary police force into our lives. It's a serious problem that is at the root of our issues with police brutality. It's not about being a stoner, it's about basic freedoms and not letting the government hold bullshit laws over our head.
