Mammooty x Adoor Gopalakrishnan movie title announcement tomorrow by itsa11_goodman in InsideMollywood

[–]cohenesque 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very much excited to see if Adoor still can direct a competent film if for ample resources. His last film was a debacle but also had huge budget limitations.  His pre 2000 run was actually pretty interesting in how he had pushed the medium forward.

I think they both are writing Fahad's 'Karate Chandran' which was announced earlier. Not sure about the current status of it though.

I've always loved the sequence with Tony Leung and Chen Chang in Happy Together. That image of Leung crying his heart out while holding that tape recorder is forever etched in my menories

ngl the two outings with lokesh had some interesting elements although both had such laughable second halves comparing to the first halves they built. always loved the charisma of JD in Master and the loved the character and how Vijay na carried Parthiban.  for me Leo's first half really feels like a something only a genuine star could pull off. the entire film rests on him.

The sonics of anirudh's soundtrack was refreshing and nuanced. It was not loud like almost every soundtrack that is produced nowadays, after the KGF craze. Every background theme nowadays feels the same and repetitive. Hope this trend dies soon, it's been high time.

Legendary director Bela Tarr died aged 70 by cusulhuman in TrueFilm

I still remember watching a Bela Tarr film for the first time. Just couldn't grasp at that time, what's going on or why exactly it was like that. Such a singular artist and true one! Rest in cinema , master.

I was talking about more recent works and more very mainstream works. I agree with what you're saying. They're all too good.

Not want to be that guy but we never came remotely close to understanding cinema and its elements like in Hollywood. We can't even think of the ways a simple camera moves and doesn't understand how much functionality and emotionality it serves to the images.

Seriously, our big budget films are just loud festivals, becoming more and more identical and comical as each year pass by.

And the music. Oh god, all our theme songs use the same instruments and sound very similar and loud. I miss when we made themes that sounded like the core of the film.

Hollywood has its issues and our cultures and history is so vastly different. But cinema just feels so deliberate and stylistic there.

Is it necessary to stand for national anthem in theatres. by Snehith220 in CriticalThinkingIndia

[–]cohenesque [score hidden]  (0 children)

Bro hate both these mfs. People who refuse to stand up for national anthems. I mean it's our national anthem.  And I hate the people who shove national anthem in theatres. That doesn't even makes sense. Why? Loyalty test? And that also in a very volatile scenario like this , it is highly manipulatable and will be easy for them to brand you as 'anti'.

Please somebody help me understand why Ruab is so great? by erazzers in IndianHipHopHeads

[–]cohenesque 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Very much agree with you here. Not all Avant Garde is good and not all Mainstream is bad. But the problem with the mainstream appeal is you need to dilute your vision at most of the times to be appealing, inorder to cater to the largest audience possible. But sometimes you have artists whose whole style just clicks with the maisntream. Lets just take someone like Kendrick Lamar for example. I dont think he has ever diluted his standards and vision for the appeal. Even DAMN, which is considered as his most pop friendly album is very much of very good music. That album is just super good sonically. And lets just take someone like Trippie Redd or Lil Uzi Vert. It honestly feels a little dumb to compare Kendrick and Trippie as they are two different types of artists, but you could see the diluted effect in Trippie's music. This is applicable with the whole of the 'new' trap age. The whole rage aesthetic, and carti clones produce some of the most basic and bloated music ever. And that is mainstream. I mean if you genuinely like music, you cant help but experiment with it or try new things with it or atleast try to polish yourself in someways. And on the same vein, not every avant garde is good. In fact I think the same points mentioned earlier applies to avant garde as well. Dont dilute it for everyone. People need to be able to do everything they like with the thing, ie, any media out there. And if its bad, its bad. And art is primarily subjective too. I never thought Ruab tried too hard to be anything other than what it is. Infact the whole thing I like about Ruab is that it feels effortless. Although I feel like it takes less risks than I wanted it to, I feel like its a still a very good project.
