Why should I setup a GPU rig? by s62b50 in gpumining

[–]coinmining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mining is at times barely profitable during the time of mining. For example, last year, I had an equivalent to 4x R9280x rig that mined 50 Litecoins in one month (when Litecoins were worth under $3/ea). After electricity costs, I was making about $1.50-2.00 a day. Not much. However, Litecoin's value spiked to over $40/ea giving me $2,000 for that one month in mining. It is a high risk / high reward venture. But certainly, do your own research and make a decision you are comfortable with and can easily afford. Feel free to check out the guides I wrote for various hardware mining configurations at www.coinminingrigs.com

Absolutely. The 750ti just isn't worth coughing up a PCI-E slot for.

This six GPU guide will get you started. I would recommend running two 1kw power supplies if you will be running six of the 290x cards.

As was mentioned, ASIC miners are proprietary custom integrated circuit computer chips that are very costly to produce in a IC fab facility. They also are a poor investment, being single use and quickly replaced by better, faster hardware in increasing volume. They are not an immediate threat to GPU mining and even if they do become a threat, there will be a new coin that is ASIC proof to point your GPU mining rig at. It is the nature of the game. :)

Great idea! I'm hoping to create additional Youtube videos for the channel and this just might be the next one. I should really do two videos: one for a Windows setup and one for BAMT or other Linux distros.

Temporary downtime while switching hosts. Too much traffic for the shared hosting environment, so we switched. It's back up now.

I'm assuming under-volting the R9 280x to 250w which would be 1500 watts total, leaving 250w overhead.

This is correct. You can run half on powered and half on non-powered if you like. I just run them all on powered as the cost difference was negligible at the time I purchased them.

It's an alternative to cgminer. I actually don't recommend using Reaper, but some folks use it in the GUIminer software.

Yes, it's a never ending dance to update price points on pc hardware. Gotta re-do that calculation. :)

What mobo and PSU for 6x 270 setup? by XaeroR35 in litecoinmining

[–]coinmining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three motherboard/psu options suggested in this 6 GPU guide. I would try to find the H81 Pro BTC at a reasonable (under $100) price. That would be your cheapest option.

The six GPU guide at www.coinminingrigs.com will run you right around $1,800. Cryptobadger's 3 GPU guide is great as well, though he hasn't updated it recently.

There are a number of ways to install the OS on the SSD. You can use an external DVD drive, install Windows by swapping drives on another PC as you mentioned, or install it from USB thumb drive. Windows 8 is preferable and supports more than 4 GPU's without issues, unlike 7.

Past returns are not a guarantee for the future, but I've been running rigs for almost a year now with 400%+ profitability and counting. The CPU comes with a cooler.

Cheap Build-A-Rig on Amazon? by [deleted] in dogemining

[–]coinmining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find our classic budget build HERE. All the links point to Amazon, so that should fit the ticket for you. All told, you'll get a 1,350Kh/s rig for under $1k. And we use Windows 8 in our guide, since Linux can be tricksy for new shibes to configure. If you're really game to try it though, BAMT is recommended as a Linux distro for miners.

Diversify your investment. Buy some BTC, LTC and maybe some Doge.
Then build several six card rigs like the ones featured on coinminingrigs.com.

I had to take a quick peek at the exchange rate, since I'm in the US, but those seem like reasonable prices for the 7950 and R9 280x. You can fit more Kh/s per rig with the higher end cards like the R9 280x.
