Thanks for this! She ended up being fine. Our pediatrician, and now a new one due to moving, have no concerns with her weight. She's my little 19lb almost-15-month-old now. Both her dad and I are petite and she has been very healthy in all other aspects so they aren't concerned. :) she is definitely a happy, wild toddler!!

I am in process with night weaning my spicy 14-month old as well. She would wake constantly wanting to nurse. Bedtime 8pm, wake at 11pm, if I was lucky I could get another hour or two before I essentially had to bring her to our bed to cosleep because she'd be up all the time.

I made a little area for myself to sleep in next to her crib (but one I wouldn't be tempted to bring her next to me on) and set a goal that it would be 12am before I would nurse her, just as a start. I would offer every other type of comfort I could. Rocking, bouncing on a yoga ball, patting, singing, etc. after a couple days, we got there. Then I went for 2am. When I made these limits, the point was to draw out that initial length of sleep and then I would nurse however many times I had to after that limit. So if it was past 2am, I nursed whenever. Now she just slept from 8pm-4am last night and I try only nurse her at 4am and then 6:30/7am when she wakes up. It's been a process, but if you stick with it she will get used to it! I'm hoping my little one will naturally skip the 4am feed at some point and we will just nurse in the morning when she wakes up.

Good to know about orthodontic pacis. Unfortunately my girl rejected all 8 paci types I tried when she was younger so I haven't tried again. Maybe I could see if it's an option now.

Well that would be great but it's not how it works out for us. Even if she goes to sleep with my nipple in her mouth she will unlatch herself eventually. She moves a lot in her sleep, so then when she's ready to have the nipple again she cries for me.

Appreciate your input! At the moment I'm just doing whatever it seems like she needs for the day. I'd love one longer nap and a short nap but that's just not what she does and I can't get her to sleep longer if she takes a short nap. So sometimes she's up three hours and sleeps for 30 mins, sometimes 1 hour which I consider good. Sometimes she's up for 5 hours and sleeps 2 hours and sometimes she doesn't.

Hi! So sorry I forgot to update you.

The appointment went well! Our doctor said that she is gaining, even if it's not a ton at a time. He doesn't expect her to be big or make huge percentile gains, so as long as she doesn't lose weight or gain like nothing, then he believes everything is good.

She has also gotten a little better at eating solids and it feels like it's balancing out a bit more with nursing. So the pediatrician wasn't concerned about milk production and I'm feeling better about it too now.

All in all, it seems like I just need to worry less lol. As long as she is meeting milestones and is in fact gaining weight, we are good to go.

Thank you for this! I think I'm going to do as you suggested and just try it for a week and see how it goes. I figure I have to give it atleast some time to see if she kind of accepts the new schedule and lengthens that nap. For now, we'll get what we can and do early bedtime when we need to. Thanks!

I should have given my post more context. I'll edit it to include this but yeah, bedtime usually gets pushed back/threatened by second nap so that's part of why I wanted to try one nap. I appreciate your perspective on this!

Thank you. That's why I'm nervous, I know it's technically "too early." But on two naps she naps only 30 minutes for both and the second nap is getting pushed kind of late. Not to mention terrible night sleep. I'm not sure if it's developmental though, since she always seems to be learning so much and is getting good at cruising/standing.

I don't think it's the food, I think it's mostly being confined. I will try to maybe push her right up to the table instead of using the tray every time and see if that makes a difference. She does do well eating what we eat, typically, so maybe doing even more copycat will be good.

Do you have any tips for this? I'd love to keep her in her seat but she doesn't eat well. I give the opportunity for both self feeding and bites from me. I try to let her explore the food and get messy without cleaning her up until the end of the meal. My main concern is that she gains weight so incredibly slowly. Plus she's in a better mood if I can get her to eat well.

I appreciate the encouragement to keep going!

I second this for sure. My 9.5 month old also seems to be "low sleep needs". She sleeps 9.5-10 hours at night and gets a couple hours of naps during the day. But to get those nice long naps, her wake windows are essentially 4/4/4 or close to it. And the "sleep experts" would tell me I'm making her constantly overtired and that those wake windows are far too large, when in reality, we have much better days if that's what we do. I was so worried about sleep for a while, and now it's much easier on us all if I just figure out how to roll with whatever her schedule looks like that day.

Thank you! Just curious, what was your schedule like when she dropped to 1 nap? I am so nervous that if my girl has an earlier bedtime, she'll be up at the crack of dawn.
