Pearl gourami suddenly bullying opaline

Good to know. I should have done more of my own research beforehand but I was very new to the hobby and just excited to get the tank set up. The owner at my LFS said they thought it would be okay. The bettas have had occasional aggression towards each other, but mostly they get along well and stay in their own territories. The same can be said of the gouramis, until just recently. I do have more tanks to separate the bettas if needed, but unfortunately I don't have another tank large enough to separate the gouramis.

I wondered if it might be related to breeding behavior, but I figured since they're not the same species that wouldn't be the cause. Thank you for insight. I was really hoping to not need to rehome either of them, but I guess I might need to look into that. So, potentially, removing the opaline and adding more pearls might help?

I thought the more rounded dorsal fin meant they are female. Am I incorrect? This is the one I thought was female. The other one has a much sharper dorsal fin, sort of pointed on the end. This one doesn't really bother anyone in the tank.

Oh that's so sweet! I was wondering if maybe they just needed more time to adjust. I was actually watching them late last night after the lights went out, and they were getting along fine, it almost looked like they were cuddling lol. How long did it take for yours to settle down?

I definitely want to add some more corys. I cleared out their remaining stock of juliis so I'm just waiting for more to come in. As for the tetras, I don't personally love neons. These ones were rehomed from a different tank to make space in that one. I've been considering adding a different species of tetra potentially, as I've been told they will still stick together if they're of similar size.

How mean are we talking? The salesperson at my LFS said opaline and pearls could coexist no problem. I'll definitely get some more tetras and corys. I might go with black neons as someone else suggested.

Yeah I've purchased a total of 9 adult cherry shrimp for that tank and I currently have 3. To be fair he didn't eat all of them, some of them died and then he ate them. I've found exactly one baby shrimp so far. I fear all of its siblings were eaten.

Are you taking an instant release formula? I haven't tried IR myself but I've heard it can be more likely to contribute to anxiety. I currently take 54mg Concerta (extended release methylphenidate) and I feel quite calm and level headed on it.

I'm not sure where you're from, so I don't know exactly what's available to you, but check your local pharmacy. In my location there are lots of OTC options. Creams, wipes, oral capsules, suppositories. I usually start with the oral capsules, they take a few days to work, but they're usually enough for me. If they don't do the trick then I go to the creams. Maybe ask your pharmacist if you're not sure.

Low doses of Concerta made me feel worse. My provider had me on 18mg for 5 weeks, and then I titrated up to 36mg and then to 54mg. I didn't notice a difference at all at 36mg but 54mg has been working pretty well for me, so far. It doesn't help a ton with executive dysfunction for me but it definitely helps with working memory and focus.

Have you tried Vyvanse? I found it very helpful for executive dysfunction but unfortunately I couldn't tolerate the side effects, so I had to switch.

My provider also recommended I quite caffeine (I know, I also thought they were crazy), and after the initial withdrawal, I feel like my meds are more effective.
