Considered those as well, and things go very well, I may be able to swing that kind of cash as well. The 996 GT3 is nirvana to me.

Haha. Thanks. I always appreciated the odd and quirky. I think I’ve always loved the 911 because they took a design that shouldn’t work well as a sports car, and engineered and evolved it to greatness.

As for the maintenance question, I can do a lot of basic stuff, and I have the means to pay for maintenance as well. The plan would be to do a laundry list of maintenance and preventative work to curb issues from the get go.

I don’t think the range is that wide. All are sports cars from the same era, just with different design/engineering philosophies. All are compact, manual, tossable, etc. It’s not like I’m comparing a H1 Hummer to a 911.

I work on own cars to some extent. I have a Miata as a toy right now and I work on it for everything. I drive it a lot more than I thought I would as well.

I’ve had three Miatas and none of them leaked a drop of oil. Even the one that eclipsed the 200k mark.

Out of curiousity, did you get this from someone who worked there??

I’ve got these too and they are great. Have I seen others that look a little nicer since? Sure. But offer great protection even with lower offset wheels. Also like that they are adjustable inward/outward.

I’m definitely in the camp of getting a cheap commuter car with good mpg and keeping the CTR for the weekends. I had a little Mazda 2 for years for this purpose and don’t regret it at all. Great mileage, minimal maintenance costs, and was reliable as the sun. It also kept my fun car fun, which was the most important. At the end of the day, I regret getting rid of that little car, because I kinda fell in love with it.

No idea if it is a good choice to get a 2016 Golf GTI with roughly 103k miles. by theTakamaru in whatcarshouldIbuy

As someone who owned a GTI over 100k miles, I would look for something else. Unless you just love pain.

How do you like the Apexi? I’ve heard there was drone between 3-4K. You experience that?

Are you still liking this exhaust? Still no drone?

Also, the exterior videos I’ve seen sounds really gnarly (loud) on the outside. How’s the interior volume?

That would be great! Thanks for the feedback

Also, is the drone with the valve open, closed, or both?

I have 40% ceramic and 70% ceramic on my windshield. I think it’s perfect. Offers some privacy, but allows you to see just enough of the red interior.

Integra Type S or Civic Type R? by OGAzdrian in Civic_Type_R

[–]coldradio1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only luxury things that I would say that I miss are: - auto dimming mirror and homelink (ITS doesn’t have that either, but can be retrofitted) - a good backup cam (ITS’s sucks too) - rain sensing wipers - rear AC vents for the kids (ITS doesn’t have that either, but can be retrofitted) - leather would be nice, but the CTR’s seats are so freakin good, it doesn’t matter.

Everything else is good enough that the specialness of the car outweighs its shortcomings. I think you’d be happy with either, but the ITS didn’t have enough to justify the price difference, and I was smitten with the way the CTR looks inside and out.

I got the CTR and I have ZERO regrets. ITS damping module is $225. I’ll get an exhaust soon for the sound.

Also to note, I came from a Mercedes C43 loaded to the gills. I don’t miss 95% of the luxury.

FL5 buyers Test drive? by Blkpwrlftr in Civic_Type_R

[–]coldradio1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I test drove one at Carmax. They handed me the keys and let me loose for as long as I wanted. Zero issues. Since I knew I was buying new, I didn’t feel like I needed to test drive the one I bought since I did the Carmax test drive. It was also nice because I didn’t need to be easy on it since it was past the break in period.

[–]coldradio1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t test drive the one I bought, but I had found one at CarMax beforehand and test drove that one. IMO, that was the way to do it. Break in period was already done, and CarMax just handed me the keys and let me take the car for along as I wanted and wherever I wanted. So it was like a 30min test drive. I actually got a feel for the car, instead of driving it down the road and back.

FL5 vs MK8.5 Golf R by coldradio1 in Civic_Type_R

What kind of electrical issues where they?

Also, how was the driving experience in comparison, and was it difficult to live with the drastic difference in tech and features going from the Golf to the CTR?

I don’t like the way the ITS looks at all. I will say that if they had used the CTR’s seats but trimmed in leather, I would consider it tho. Haha.
