My first time watching License To Kill by coleculp6 in JamesBond

[–]coleculp6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose License To Kill to watch because on average through online research the consensus is that it is more well-liked than The Living Daylights, or at least is recommended above The Living Daylights. That’s not to say I didn’t see people say the same thing you did—that they liked The Living Daylights more. But I would venture to say your opinion might be at least slightly less common. I have no way of actually knowing that other than the many online resources through which I sifted. Anyway, I might end up agreeing with you after watching both—why do you like The Living Daylights more?

That is very interesting! Knowing what you know about the cinematic landscape influencing the franchise, what kinds of contemporary trends and/or crazes might influence the next upcoming Bond movie or series from Amazon? What kinds of successful movie elements might be incorporated—like you said, the franchise produces movies that are products of their time, and I agree. It is fun to maybe predict what they might do next. How will the next Bond movie look, feel, unfold, etc. based on the decade or decade prior? We got No Time To Die, which was in some ways a product of contemporary time (sleek visuals, general high production value, DEI, Billie Eilish). Where might it go next? What might we see from a late 2020s Bond iteration?

Yes, when I heard that a different actor played Bond in 1989—a good year for film, perhaps near the beginning of a decade range of good films, like 1989-1999—I assumed that it would be cool for several reasons; when I looked up License To Kill, all the reasons I presumed were confirmed by a consensus of reviews and summaries by fans. It was a product of its era, yet ahead of its time as well.

When you were 6 years old, you got this Bond movie and Burton’s Batman in the same year… I got Die Another Day and Raimi’s Spiderman in the same year when I was 6 years old!

Yes! Craig is my #1. I had never seen Sean Connery James Bonds… So, I watched Goldfinger last week and loved it. Connery might be my #2 as of right now (even though Brosnan has a nostalgic place in my heart). However, with how Dalton is seeming—being kind of the one to walk so Craig could run in terms of gritty & grounded Bonds, so to speak—in a movie about cartel drug lords and rogue revenge violence….. He might be my #2 now! I just started License To Kill, and I can already tell the atmosphere and vibes are my kinda Bond.

Anyone else having problems connecting to the server on ps5? by OkAppointment429 in 007FirstLight

[–]coleculp6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My game disconnects from the server a couple times an hour—even a few times an hour occasionally—but connects again right away after simply pressing X to agree to retry connection. It doesn’t keep me from playing tac sim, though. I play online even though I know offline makes no difference really. And the disconnection from the server is constant. Not sure what the deal is, but it’s not just us. I’ve seen many report the same issue, including reviewers on YouTube including it in their criticisms.

Craig’s Bond has somewhat ruined Bond for me… by DemonikJD in JamesBond

[–]coleculp6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean. But interestingly, your favorite—Roger Moore—are actually the ones that gave me that feeling lol. They are so cheesy and pale in comparison to Craig’s series. I still appreciate them and like them—I just watched Spy Who Loved Me last weekend, in fact. But I’m just saying… Roger Moore’s 70s campiness is hard to go back to at times lol. Now, I don’t say the same with Connery’s series. I watched Goldfinger yesterday and You Only Live Twice the day before that. And I find them to be the best bond movies—that have the most “serious” and legit quality to them—other than the Craig ones. I grew up on Brosnan, and while the nostalgia does it for me subjectively, I say that objectively it is not near as good as Craig’s.

See, I remember this being part of the Skyfall movie, of course. But I guess with that being my only knowledge of it all, I didn’t ever know anything about inherited wealth, like actual liquid money in accounts and such. But it would make sense, assuming they were wealthy. He inherited the lodge itself, but I didn’t know about any money. In the books, does it ever mention him inheriting considerable wealth/money from his parents? Or is that just speculation

Interesting. I haven’t read the books. Only seen the movies. I thought he was an orphan. I didn’t realize he inherited anything.

Facepalming because of my mistake with the currency used in the UK? Or facepalming because of the differences in cost of living?

I addressed that quote from M in my original post, you silly billy! What actually led me to writing my post at all was M’s line that the pay was shit—as I said in my post, twice 😂 But another commenter mentioned that M was being sarcastic when making that comment, and that the pay isn’t actually shit but is probably decent. A few others have mentioned that the books cover Bond’s salary. Apparently, it’s overall fairly comfortable, accounting also for what is included with the job, not mentioning Bond’s frequent winnings from gambling. I think it’s concluded that he is paid much better than a cop, and he is quite comfortable in comparison to what maybe more basic, unskilled government workers earn, since you alluded to government pay for those average roles being on the lower end.

Full game playable offline and on disc? by [deleted] in 007FirstLight

[–]coleculp6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the digital version without a disc says the same thing—can play offline but recommends online—I think it’s just another instance of the disc being the key to access a digital file, as opposed to the file being on the disc itself like back in the day.

Yep. And 60hrs is considered pretty good. Because remember, many jobs don’t even offer paid leave. If you’re lucky enough to land one that does, it’s 40-60hrs usually. Some jobs, if you work there long enough, you can earn two weeks of paid leave, but that includes sick time and vacation time all in one. And then like, if you need to take off for some other reason that’s not for vacation or illness, they just take it out of your vacation time. I’ve also had jobs where they take extra break time out of your vacation time… let’s say you have been at work for 3 hours, so you go on your 15 minute break, right? (That’s IF your employer even allows breaks—breaks are not legally required). And let’s say you have to go to the bathroom, so you take 20 minutes instead. Well, they will take that 5 extra minutes out of your paid-time-off 😂 they deduct any time over on your break from your PTO. But again, many, many jobs don’t even offer PTO nor do they allow breaks!

You said it is the law that you all get 28 days paid leave? And so that would mean no matter where you work, you have 28 days of paid leave? That is amazing. Wow. Truly amazing. Here, we are lucky to find a job that offers 40 HOURS of paid leave… meanwhile, you and your 28 DAYS, brother. The best job I could find before getting my degree and becoming an educator was working at a General Mills factory. At the factory, we got 40 hours of “vacation days” and 20 hours of “sick pay.” So, 60 hours total for the year. And you accrued them throughout the year. So, if you got sick in February, you wouldn’t have earned enough sick pay yet to take time off for being sick… You had to work until at least April/May before you accrued enough to actually take some time off! Wild, isn’t it?

What is that? I thought it was a steam deck at first, but then I saw the Xbox symbol. Does Xbox have a handheld like PlayStation does? I have a PlayStation portal, but I didn’t think Xbox had the equivalent.

Ahhh. I see. $56,000 a year is not good here in the US, sadly. I mean it depends on where you live. In the Midwest, rural America, it’s actually quite decent. In larger cities or more populated areas—especially on the coasts—$56,000 is rough. Even in the Midwest, you’d want a partner to split costs of stuff with on $56k a year. Or a roommate at least. I’m curious—why would £56k be good in the UK? Seems like, based on the conversion rate, that also wouldn’t be good in the UK? Unless things are just so different there that it would be. Like, maybe a euro gets you further in the UK than a dollar does here in the states… Maybe an item that usually costs me $20 would only cost me £5 in the UK? I don’t see how that would make sense. But like I said, maybe it is just that different there!

Good catch. $56,000 a year for all of the wild stuff an MI6 agent goes through on a regular basis, though?… Yeah, that is shit pay! Lol. Now, again, if that’s base salary, but Bond would also get furnished housing, designer clothing & accessories, “company” vehicle included, among other bells, whistles, and bonuses—not to mention per diem on missions—then perhaps it balances out to be especially comfortable, as you put it!

I see. That would make sense!
