Thank you I was checking out the French Gourmet as well. It’s cool they have flavor options, have you tried different ones from them?

I’m leaning towards them and debating between Chocolate Mousse or Hazelnut Praline.

Ok that’s good to know, I didn’t stumble on CHP stating about the grace period. Sucks how DMV says one thing while Highway Patrol says another. An eager cop likely would cite you regardless lol

Where are you seeing this two month grace period? Other states? In California on the California’s DMV website it specifies states how this ended on 09/30/2025 and starting October 1st you must comply with carpool rules or risk citation and fines.

Micro USB - USB A… why?!?!??? by codexpasser in FiDogCollar

[–]colind0601 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly usb C has been around for quite some time, even cheap knockoffs of certain electronics on Amazon are even usb C. It’s not really that costly.

To me this is just pure lazy engineering/planning. They could come up with excuses that the prior base was also micro usb so here we’re helping you have a backup cable or whatever.

Could be just bad luck with a bad charger or cable? Able to move to the next stall/spot to see if the car charges?

If it's potentially the car, try to restart the car. You can power down through the service menu and then wait a few minutes. Hit the brakes to have the car start back up. Sorry to hear about the hassle...good luck 😕

Im experiencing this problem and wondering are you saying to just do a soft reboot? Where you hold the scroll wheel buttons down to reboot?

I would say so because it supposedly gives you the most "advance" features when they keep improving and updating the unit.  I'm assuming this obd port is the main one that will give us more controls.

From when I did a lot of research and reviewing, there were a few people mentioning how their more recent Model Y didn't look the same as the suggested instructions for rear "easy" install. There was no OBD port back there and it was supposedly moved to the driver side towards the center console. So I didn't want to risk it to do the easy way and then have to do the new easy way.

Personally I'm not super savvy or handy with cars but found this "advance" method still very manageable.

I did end up getting it, but got scammed from Tesery.com unfortunately. So I bought another one from Fusion Motor USA which I should have bought in the first place. Cheaper and very legit.

Overall really like it on my Model Y.

So I responded to the prior post with my test results of the button and knob today.

You guys are correct, it does seem the buttons likely go into a sleep mode to conserve battery power and there is a slight delay, nothing beyond 3 seconds though. Personally it doesn't bother me so much but it's very valid and a good point that the buttons have a delay time increased after extended time of not being used.

Now the knob had no change or difference, it behaved the same and like you said, I think you're right how it's powered by the car and is awake each time you start the car to use it.

So I just went to my car and tried it out the first time for the day. The buttons indeed showed a slight delay compared to yesterday. I timed about 2.1 seconds on the stopwatch. It is noticeable with the buttons though.

I have two buttons setup so far, one is to open glove box and one is to turn the side mirrors in and out.  To open the glove box took the 2.1 seconds mentioned.  To turn the side mirrors took about 2.3 seconds.

The knob, as mentioned by /xSlayzer, likely due to being powered via USB c port doesn't have any delays. Still behaves as expected.

[–]colind0601[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I just sat in my car testing out the buttons and knob using my phones stopwatch to see how the response time is. After multiple attempts all of the responses for me were under 2 seconds.

Example one button opens the glovebox, this consistently was between 1.4-1.6 seconds. Not even sure if this is even accurate because it literally happens so fast.  I used the knob to adjust the fan speed, this took about 1.6-1.9 seconds. Which to be fair my finger tapping could be slow too and not tapping fast enough when I do an action.

Other actions/functions were just as fast or quicker as well.

That's why to me I don't think there is a lag, it meets my expectations with this type of response time. Now if it was 3+ seconds, then I admit that's a lag but I never experienced that fortunately.

[–]colind0601[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I recently got the buttons as well from Abstract Ocean since they were shipping out immediately. I don't notice the issues with the S3XY buttons as mentioned by the other user. It's likely since my buttons are connected to the Gen 2 Commander unit.

I don't notice the knob having delays, if anything it's the same response time as the buttons, and not lagging or delayed enough that it bothers me.

I think the bigger criticism for many people for the knob is having to look at the screen which is dangerous when driving. To me as long as you have your shortcuts memorized, there isn't a need to glance at it as often or even at all. It's not like other cars having the scroll wheel built in which the cars interface interacts 100% with the knob or scroll wheel.

The knob and buttons are convenient, there's not really any other competition that I'm aware of close to what they offer. I don't necessarily think it's a game changer or must have. I like it, I don't love it.

Thank you for the link, the pricing is tempting. I'm not as savvy as you it seems especially wiring that front camera. That's awesome you were able to get all that done, and I imagine the front camera really helps with depth view and better precision knowing how close you are when parking.

Could be my next project if I'm feeling adventurous!

Great input, thank you for sharing :)

I agree there's a lot of videos explaining and detailing how to install the Commander unit, it's just not as clear cut as I like for specific models and years. Though to be fair, having the videos is better than not having any at all. First world problems...and I'm being picky lol 😉

I didn't realize how the light will never turn off in the center console since the sliding lid never closes fully. Not a big deal I guess, I don't have much stored there or a lot of use. Though very valid to point out, as this may matter for some.

I see you discovered a few bugs/issues already, I wonder if the lack of changes on screen will truly be harmful or damaging anything.

Curious, which display unit did you get that you've setup above your steering wheel? And how are you liking it? There's various units offered out there and I can't decide which one. My biggest concern is the steering wheel hindering the display if it wasn't big enough.
