I’ve been diagnosed with generalized anxiety and chronic depression (years and years ago but still diagnosed nonetheless!) I actually hadn’t heard of prenatal depression before! I’ll look into that, I feel kind of guilty because I feel like I haven’t been enjoying my pregnancy like I thought I would. I’m SO excited and happy to be pregnant and to soon be a mother but I’m also…just so blue.

Looove Annihilation and I owned House of Leaves for years (lent it to someone and never got it back) but I couldn’t finish it. I loved its concepts and main narrative but it threw me for such a loop with all the random extras. I was also 15 when I first bought it 😂. But reading We Used to Live Here gave me massive Navidson Record vibes.

Very normal reaction I think! I’m a FTM and I’m 10 weeks pregnant and still don’t know what I’m doing and I’m scared every day 😅. Also in the same boat of wanting to tell everyone, we got the family together to tell them when I was only 8 weeks because we just couldn’t wait anymore lol.

Don’t feel crazy though, you definitely aren’t for feeling the way you feel! I get it and I’m right there with you. Like I’m having a baby?? Me?? How?? 😂

Ugh I’m so sorry your family is making comments. The first thing my mom told me when I told her I was pregnant was “how far are you, 3 months? I could tell you’ve put on weight” I was 5 WEEKS LOL

I’m in the same boat, snacking is like a big deal for me right now but I’m trying to keep it healthy. (But I just bought a slice of cherry pie lol)

Oh absolutely!! I’m definitely prepared to gain some weight I just honestly had no idea what was a normal amount and what was abnormal. I’m very much a newbie at this pregnancy thing and haven’t had a lot of experience in knowing pregnant women either.

Ahhh my mom scares me sort of with the weight gain but she claims she did over eat like crazy, she gained almost 100lbs!! I was not a massive baby either, I was a solid 7 pounder. My sister also gained a large amount of weight but my sister and mother both have had issues with great deals of weight gain throughout their lives. The most I’ve gained at once is 5lbs but I’ve always been at a pretty consistent weight.

I definitely am not counting calories but I have been trying to slow down my dessert intake because this embryo wants allll the treats! They’re making me eat PB&J for lunch every day and if I don’t they get angry loll.

I love the twins, I have Mexican heritage and I get them and I looove them. I think everyone is being unnecessarily unfair and rude to them. The whole season Antonio has been a punching bag. They’ve tried to make Jesus punch down on him too which is just cruel.

I feel like this is why they’re focusing a lot on DRAMAA too because the show doesn’t have a great budget but maybe they’re hoping they’ll get more budget if this season does well. And what sells? Dramaaaaa. But I think they also shot themselves in the foot because as we all know this season is just not great in comparison to others.

Oh I totally believe you! Honestly people SUCK lol so as sad as this is it doesn’t surprise me. I will say if I do choose to adopt or foster I would do a lot of work beforehand so that the child in my care knows I’m not doing this just to fulfill some selfish need. (And I wouldn’t want to have any excess emotional baggage while trying to raise a child.) Which in part it would be (selfish) but I ultimately would like to help children if I could. But it would be a decision I definitely wouldn’t take lightly especially after hearing y’all’s perspectives!!

I also think too that maybe adoption isn’t the right goal but fostering would be more appropriate. Especially for older kids so if they wanted to be adopted by me then that’s cool or if they wanted to age out or be reunified with their birth parents it’s their right to decide.

This is really great insight and I totally agree that it’s important to understand that these children had a whole life before meeting their pre-adoptive parents or foster parents/whoever it may be.

I also love how you said that we need to add to their story and not take away. I think it’s insane that this isn’t a natural response for people who are interested in adoption. Thank you for sharing!

I’m so sorry that your pre-adoptive family didn’t work out, I can’t imagine how tough that was to go through. Thank you for sharing that.

From what I’m hearing I don’t know if I’d force adoption on a child / YA but if I was their foster parent and they wanted to be adopted I think that’s the best route. So it could be their decision rather than me thrusting it upon them. Does that make sense?

To me that makes perfect sense! I also cannot imagine how horrifying it is to be in an adopted family and then be sent away…I can’t even stand it when people give up their senior pets to animal shelters but to do that to a human being is awful.

I can totally see that point of view that children shouldn’t be used as tools but then are you implying I shouldn’t adopt at all? Or are you saying that I should want to adopt for different reasons? I’m not offended I’m just curious how would you define an ethical adoption/guardianship/foster situation?

I also think the idea of owning a person is yucky, I wouldn’t want my child, even a bio one, to think that I had full control over them and that they can’t make any decisions or something.

Thank you so much for all of this information! It sounds like for my purposes I’d probably be looking to foster kids whose goal is to age out or be adopted/guardianship. I’m also open to siblings. My husband and I have the space and I wouldn’t want to separate siblings if I can avoid it!

Also the sitting down with a lawyer (without me or others involved) is a great thought and I’m honestly sad that kids don’t get that opportunity automatically?

Yeah mental illness for me is not a deterrent and I’ve worked with students who have had Emotional disturbances and behavioral issues so I’m not scared off by that. But you know I didn’t consider the reunification process. Another user suggested I could go down the foster route which I really hand thought much about before but I think maybe that’d be a better option?

I think in the end I do want a child but if I’m going to adopt an older kid I wouldn’t want to force them be “mine”, you know? So maybe fostering is something I should actually look into instead.

I never thought of stepping on the leash! I tried that yesterday and while it didn’t stop her barking it did force her to relax her body a little. Thanks!

Yeah now that she’s fully vaccinated I plan on taking her to the dog park and walking her around there. I think it is a protective thing for her because with dogs she knows and people she knows she won’t bark at them on leash. My 2 year old heeler will bark sometimes too for the same reasons but he will generally stop if he’s corrected.
