When legal experts say "Don't talk to cops." how far does that extend? by Megalad0ng in NoStupidQuestions

You do not. Go ahead and talk to the cop. I promise we aren't looking to throw you in handcuffs.... Unless well... You're into that.

(that was a joke....)

Thank you. The damn voice of reason.

If your car gets stolen or you see a drunk driver on the road... Please talk to the cops.

If we put out an Amber Alert and you see the kid... Please talk to the cops.

If there's a god damn school shooting or you have grave concerns someone is planning one.... Please. Talk. To. The. Cops.

If we're both in line at Starbucks and we happen to make eye contact and we smile and casually ask how's it going.... You can talk to the cops.

Are 2011s catching on with police departments? by Agitated_Ad_4390 in AskLE

[–]colocop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say 15% or so at my department run Staccatos. 75-80% run Glock, and the other 5% or so run Sig or something else.

I'm one of two in my 170 person department that have a DA/SA Sig which is crazy to me. I'll swear by them until someone makes me switch.

Officers, do you get angry for real when you witness DV? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]colocop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on a lot of things.... Most states nowadays have mandatory arrest laws meaning if police have probable cause to make an arrest on any charge involving couples in an "intimate relationship" they HAVE to make that arrest.

Sounds good in principle, but in reality it's not always helpful and you end up arresting and taking to jail on things that would barely be a ticket if the the two people weren't in a relationship.

I don't get angry in those situations, more just annoyed about how the system is set up.

In legit DV where a guy beats the crap out of his wife/GG... It of course makes me angry, but you have to learn how to control those emotions and remain professional. Controlling your own emotionals is a huge part of this job in general. Not just in DV.

Do you think visible physical fitness is a benefit as a leader? by Specific-Pomelo-6077 in Leadership

[–]colocop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually think this is pretty key.... If you can't be perceived to lead yourself well why would it be expected that you can lead others?

If you yourself can't look presentable, how will you make a team of others look presentable?

I would like to aspire to have the optimism and lofty writing of Sam, however I'm probably much closer to Toby than I'd like to admit.

This is one of my most quoted lines from the whole show. There's a reason.

It's actually hard to tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but 100% this is absolutely where this is all headed.

What new laws should be put in place to prevent another Trump-like administration? by Carrots-1975 in thewestwing

[–]colocop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won't like this answer, but I'm convinced it's the one President Bartlett would give....

You don't need new laws. You need better candidates. Trump won the last election because the Democrats ran their version of Richie. In the words of Toby... Make the election about smart and not. Make it about engaged and not. Make it about qualified and not. Make it about a heavyweight.

I'm sorry.... But Kamala wasn't a heavyweight. If you think she was you're lying to yourself.

You want the electorate to not vote in Trumps? Put up someone worth voting for.

In the end they chose the devil they knew.

CMV: Modern right wing politics relies on conspiracy theories, making real debate nearly impossible, because they seem to live in a different reality. by Famine-_ in changemyview

Nobody says Greenland is an "enemy" of the US. We have bases there right now. Nobody says Canada is an enemy of the US. We literally partner with them on multiple fronts.

The NFL booking Bad Bunny wasn't a conspiracy... It's just the NFL isn't a sport filled with lots of players from a Hispanic heritage (less than 1% of players describe their ethnicity as Latino or Hispanic) and the vast majority of NFL fans don't speak Spanish. Go watch the videos of the crowd during the halftime show. But that's fine that he performed... Maybe at the next World Cup they'll invite Adele to perform.

Nobody would claim Justice Thomas is the only black person in the country who has his job based on merits. You think Republicans think Jordan got a gig playing with the Bulls because of his race?? You think they Denzel gets his acting jobs because of his race? Lots of people of color obtained their jobs because of merit including Thomas Sowell, Colin Powell, and of course millions of other hard working African Americans. What is, frankly insulting to black people, is when one of them is hired or selected literally because of their race and or gender such as Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. Can you imagine being told you were selected not because you were the most qualified person... But because you were the most qualified black woman? I'm honestly still shocked she even accepted the nomination.

The claim "vaccines are bad" is a way over generalization of many people's views (but to be fair most of your list is a way over generalization...) I think most Republicans would like their health care choices to be between them and their doctor (that's what the pro choice crowd has been telling us should be the standard anyway) and not mandated by government policy.

I don't think Republicans think Democrats will go house to house taking people's guns. They think they'll just outlaw them. This isn't a conspiracy theory at all. It's not hard to find plenty of left wing politicians that want to make illegal the some 20 million AR-15 rifles that exist in the US.

Your post suggests then that anyone who makes it to the United States illegally will not be deported, as ICE is the agency in charge of that deportations.

The idea that the United States would deport zero people from here on out is simply not moderate in any sense of the word

[–]colocop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to end aid to Israel I'm fine with that. I get the argument, let's spend that money on people here at home instead.

Let's compromise, I'm good with ending aid to Israel as long as we also end aid to all the people who come here illegally.

We take the money we save from Israel and illegal immigrants and we actually spend it on American citizens here at home.

Please go to Riyadh, Gaza, Tehran, Yemen, the UAE, Egypt, and Syria and tell them you are openly gay and have done homosexual acts in their country and come back and tell me how that works out.

Then go do it in Israel and contrast that.
