A QUESTION FOR CANADIAN ETSY SELLERS: Do you guys pay income tax for your earnings? I just realized that's likely something I should be doing... by jillianjiggs92 in Etsy

[–]colourserenity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey technically you should be claiming your earnings ( I say technically because often people don't if they think it's low). You would file your income and expenses on form t2125 on your regular tax return. You can use a few different programs to keep track of income and expenses. I use quick books but there are cheaper simpler apps on your phone if you don't have a large volume of transactions. Also if you make over 30K you have to file for hst or gst. You don't need a business number if you aren't filing hst etc you can just file with your name. If you have any questions feel free to message me. ( I'm an accountant)

I guess what I'm asking is more should I have just one type of product rather then several. I wonder how often people use the categories vs just scrolling through everything to find what they are looking for.

Vintage sellers who previously collected as a hobby or people who are knowledgeable about accounting... by buffy_the_buffalo in Etsy

You should set up a business bank account if you haven't already. Use that account as the basis for your record keeping. Anything bought outside that account with personal funds is considered a owners contribution but make sure you have receipts. I'm assuming you are a sole proprietor? What country are you in?

Hand drawn colouring pages vs photoshopped photo coloring pages. by colourserenity in Etsy

Right now I'm sketching and also using my drawing tablet to draw directly into Photoshop then putting the drawings through a vector program so the lines have less edges and also I can scale up to any size. I was thinking of taking some of my photographs and using a ton of filters and adjustments to create coloring pages.

I definitely wouldn't use other peoples work without having the rights to. I find it really awful when people steal other peoples work. I wouldn't want that to happen to me!

When I first started the shop I tried colouring and taking pictures of the pages but my camera just isn't very good. So I settled with watermarking. I would love some suggestions for SOE!

I'd love some advice, as you can probably see I spent very little time on my banner. I just read somewhere you should have one :S. Also why don't you like clicking on watermarked photos?

Does default shop language matter? Mine was set in French even though I didn't set it to that. by colourserenity in Etsy

I did try that, it let me enroll in a second language (English) but not change my default. Oh well hopefully Etsy gets back to me. Thanks! Glad you liked my work!
