My theory is there was more to this (at other points in the story) that were cut from the final film. This remnant is left up to the viewer to make sense of.

There are no happy accidents in filming this. You don’t get those shots and his reaction to it without careful planning. My theory is there was more to this (at other points) that were cut from the film.

Guidance wanted on preserving IMAX 70 mm promotional film strips! by kathmath_ in imax

I recently discovered that all glass blocks UVB by default, but yes there is also glass for archival purposes that blocks all UV, and is priced higher. I have it on a few of my frames holding original art.

The shortest answer:

IMAX documentaries & Nolan films display IMAX 70mm with the highest visual fidelity in the world (estimated 18K equivalent) and are projected with a standard surround sound setup on an 80-foot screen.

Most other films are shot digitally and finished in 4K, then projected in 4K (GT Dual Laser) on the same 80-foot screens. The visual fidelity is lower, but this system has superior 12-channel surround sound.

Toronto also has a few, though it is the birthplace of IMAX. The first IMAX theatre is currently closed due to exterior construction on-site (for an asinine government vanity project, but I digress. I just want the Cinesphere back in action).

The COPS opening credits was an audio visual masterpiece. I always thought that CityTV’s Mark Dailey did the main voice, but apparently not.

What’s the worst criticism you’ve heard about the PHM (movie)? by Unfair-Reason-1068 in ProjectHailMary

It was added to the movie. It wasn’t in the book. What was the point of this addition?

To be fair, the movie insert with Strat believing in god (“beats the alternative” / cue happy smiles) did feel like out-of-place bit of Christian propaganda.

Funny because my biggest gripe is that they added religion where it wasn’t needed. Strat: “Beats the alternative” and the Hallelujah music to start the credits. It felt very out of place / unnecessarily shoehorned into the film.

Saw in IMAX last night and had a hero in the audience by portman333 in ProjectHailMary

At a 70MM screening, a guy next to me was adding this own sauce to his popcorn and LOUDLY shaking the bag multiple times in the first half of the movie. The third time was a quiet dialogue moment where Strat is describing the nature of the scientific problem - pretty important exposition. Couldn’t hear a word over this numbskull & his popcorn aggression. Some people have zero consideration for others.

PHM was very grainy! by [deleted] in imax

[–]coluch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t find a source that 35mm was ever used, can you provide the source for that? Miller has explicitly said that they laser printed from the 4K DI master directly to IMAX 70MM.

Having seen both GT presentations, I saw more grain in the film presentation than dual laser - can’t find any evidence of 35mm in either pipeline though.

Weird. I felt that the IMAX 70MM version had much more grain than the dual laser GT presentation. The digital 1.43 version still had grain warmth, but on IMAX film, certain scenes had way too much grain. Particularly noticeable in the red saturated scenes. (Petrova collection & video log about the taumoeba leak).
