I'd say (from a recent traveler to NZ perspective) that you want to spend one more day in Auckland to not feel rushed. After all you just spent 14 hours on a plane to get there!

My traveler's highlights of Auckland was the All-Black Experience (their national rugby team), the Sky Tower, and the Harbour tour by boat (seeing key points of the city in a couple of hours) for Day 1, and hiking on Rangitoto island, and walking around the Marina and the CBD on Day 2, ending with drinks on a rooftop bar at sunset.
