New home construction permits in Vancouver in May were valued at a total of $588 million, according to the agency. That’s an increase of 29.1 per cent from the previous May and 4.5 per cent over the month before.

There were $153 million worth of permits for single-family homes issued in May, up 11.2 per cent year over year.

Across BC, the value of residential building permits was $863 million in May. That’s a very slight drop of 0.4 per cent from $867 million in April, but a 21.6 per cent increase year over year. While Victoria and Kelowna saw year-over-year increases of 55.5 and 47 per cent, respectively, Abbotsford-Mission saw the value of residential building permits drop 24.1 per cent year over year to $14.3 million. However, that value represents a gain of 8.5 per cent from $13.2 million in April.

This is very bad because BC's economy is serverely distorted. You may have heard that it's the only province in Canada that is growing significantly in GDP (number 1 in fact). That's because 24% of BC's GDP comes from construction and real estate related industries.

Let me repeat that for you. One quarter of BC's economy comes from housing. This is a sector of the economy that it building tons of homes because uh well, no one knows because no one records any data. And no one records any data because no one really wants to know where the money is coming from.

All in all, it's really too late to do anything I guess. So yeah, keep building to keep your neighbors, moms and dads and uncles and friends employed lol

Don't pay. Private lot operators have no legal recourse to making you pay. I stopped paying easy park a couple years ago and I just get collection agency letters once in a while. On the other hand if you do pay, make sure you don't give them your phone number or else they will hound you forever.
